It's too late to save the tree now : (
Comments (8)I'm all misty eyed over this magnificent tree, as I look at our our beech trees often with all its' carvings of the past....the same feeling I recalled as I watched my neighbors'former home being set afire by the fire department for 'practice' one night, then bright & early the next morning, seeing it ruthlessly chewed away by a man & his demolition machine ~ the entire structure was demolished within an hour as if it was nothing, just garbage to load into a dumpster. Someone's former home - who's past meant nothing, and now, no hope for the present. No future exists, for none of the new owners will put down deep roots. In place of the former cape cod sitting within its modest wooded lot now stands an oversized plastic cookie cutter colonial (you know the one - with the twin bumped-out front LR & DR bay windows & the oversized half round foyer window for the chandelier) towering on it's new high mound of 100 weedy blades of front 'lawn'. this town has no respect for its' past, nor its' future, as those of us remaining have to deal with all aspects of its' very vast repercussions. Houses are coming down like dominoes here- a constant regurtitation on every street you're on- a fresh one down, or 2-3 new ones on the same lot where there once was 1. The sprawl in N.J. must end!...See MoreIs it too late to plant now in late november?
Comments (7)My climate has multiple freeze/thaw cycles per winter and I have had problems with frost heave on late planted perennials. Thus, I no longer plant perennials after Halloween. I'll plant trees and shrubs late (with lots of mulch) 'cuz they have deeper roots and tend to continue root growth over winter here. If the plant of your desire is a real bargain, of course you should go for it. She whispers: are you aware that adonis blooms early and goes dormant by mid summer? This may not be your kind of plant....See MoreNew grass coming up now - too late?
Comments (3)The grass I planted last fall is doing great! It filled in nicely and we just mowed it for the first time. I did use Remay fabric over it on the cold nights last fall. Unfortunately, it is a patch along the street and a few dogs walked in it and left depressions and a few bare spots. I fixed those this spring. I wanted to add clover to my lawn, so I put Dutch White Clover seed in the bare spots and that came up great too. Unfortunately, the color of the new grass is different than the old grass. I was hoping the clover might help make the difference less noticeable. I'm not going to dig it up and start over. [g]. I am going to have to add more clover to the old lawn too, I think. I have some spots that I can work on and improve, but too late to do it now. I'll have to wait for Fall again....See MoreAm I too late now?
Comments (5)go for it .... its a lot easier than messing with pots over winter .... in my MI.. with ground freeze... heave would be an issue ... not sure how that applies to your area ... to be safe .. plant them ... and then cover them with some mulch or ground leaves .... after they are fully dormant ..... avoiding the exact crown itself ... the idea is to keep the soil around it from warming too much ,... during warm spells in winter .... lets be realistic ... fall just started a week ago ... winter doesnt really start until xmas week ... so you have plenty of time ... for the plant to settle in ... the soil to settle.. and to get ready for winter ... i would bare root and plant in native soil .... if you have some tiny minis.. i would defer to others on those ... ken...See Morebichonbabe
