I would paint lower cabinet doors black and insides of bookcase black. Add a couple simple white and gold accessories along with a group of books light backs. Add simple look on mantel on side of TV. Add black woven basket for toys beside fireplace. Add stack of birch logs to fireplace for decorative look if you don’t use it often. Do not put personal photos on this wall. Better in gallery arrangement in master br or in hallway. You can enjoy more when you can get closer to them. Guests aren’t interested in your personal stuff. Keep it simple since your sweet baby will be running around before you know it!

Thank you! The rocker isn't required...I go back and forth on it, honestly, whether to make a spot for it and keep it or not. I love the styling, but it needs recaned. COVID and forced work from home has definitely created some issues (the filing cabinet and desk) in making it even more cluttered. The easel can be folded into a box and stored. It's a long story, but it was a gift from my husband, but unfortunately not highly useful for watercolor painting (what I dabble in), so I started using it for display so at least it was used at all. The ratan drawer set only holds video game components- which based on how frequently they are used, could be stored in a box in the closet under the stairs just fine. Behind the easel are two dvd storage towers. Again, pretty optional and really need pared down to what we actually want to keep. The shelves next to the freezer are the kid's book and maker space shelves right now...but it's ugly as all get out. I need to sit down and think about what they really need for space, and create it instead of just using those two black bookcases because they are there. But all of those books are kid books, as opposed to the wall shelf which is all adult books. The other big bookshelf is only records for the record player, and a few board games (that we never play. Need to declutter those. The played ones are upstairs by the table.) I agree the decor items don't look that good on the bookshelf...but I don't know what to do with them elswhere in our house. There's really no other place for knickknacks, and honestly that's the extent of our non-Christmas knickknacks. Almost all of the pictures and items have a personal history that is strong enough to keep them.

I would go smaller. It's going to look off if the TV is larger than the firebox below - too top heavy. Chose your TV size the same way you would if you were putting art up there. And also, be prepared for the cognoscenti here to show up and berate you for putting your tv up there. You will hear it will wreck your neck, your tv will explode from the heat, and people will walk into your house and scream in horror. Yes it doesn't matter that multiple other people here can disprove all of those statements....you will still get sniffed at in derision. :)

I think you will need to see with the piano in place. The mass of the piano tops out at 40" and there is empty space underneath so it takes up room differently than most furniture. The lid on the half stick is about 5 feet and on the full stick is more than 6-1/2"--so it will depend if you keep the lid closed or partly open or open.
