I'm glad you like your car! I test drove one when I was looking this Summer. I noticed when riding in a lot of the cars I test drove, including the Subarus, that the cup holders were weirdly too far back. I guess because I'm short and my seat comes up further than an average height person? I found that I'd have to twist my arm backward to pick up a cup from the holder.

I like my Rogue okay, almost like driving my Altima, except the acceleration in it is horrible in comparison. I also haven't gotten used to the back up camera yet. I'm not too fond of all the new technology, especially the infotainment thing. (didn't know that's what they were called). It's not very user friendly especially for me.

I hope you get the headlight situation worked out. That wouldn't be good.

Nice! So glad you like it. I have the 2019 cross trek and I love the headlights as they turn with me when I turn the wheel so they light where I'm going. Also they do hi/lo beams automatically so I don't have to worry about it. But maybe they've changed them since to lead to the issue you're having.

I too am now shopping for a new car. DH will take the crosstrek, we'll get rid of the 15 yr old impreza, and I'm struggling to find what I want. I want something smaller, and sporty but luxe. I'm still looking as no matter what I get, it will be a compromise. Right now, BMW 240i is in the lead, but I'll keep looking before I decide.

Annie, my headlights have the features you descirbe, and I like that part about them too. I just can't see far enough ahead. Maybe my old eyes are part of the problem, but I hope I don't become one of those older drivers who won't drive at night.

Do you have a friend who's a car mechanic? Or just a second set of eyes?

They're screws in headlights so that you can adjust the way that they aim both from left to right and up and down. Maybe you could adjust them higher and that will help. Merely a suggestion.

But who knows, maybe modern cars don't have them anymore? I don't understand why they take CD players out? Sure a lot of people stream music but a lot of people don't? Oh well.

DH thought you should be able to take it back to where you bought it, explain your driving needs going home after dark and have them adjusted. I'm just adding he's never had a Subaru and typically drives a truck, but headlights can be adjusted on Fords at least....

Morz, please thank your DH for me, but I spoke to the dealership as soon as I realized there was a problem, and they said the headlights can't be adjusted. As the link provided by Rob shows, that's not exactly true.

My car has turbo also. The reviews, as does my review...says it has a lag. Does yours?

Nicole, no turbo lag so far. But since the dealer told me not to get the RPMs up to 4K during the first 1,000 miles, I haven't exactly stomped on the gas. I did that when I test-drove a slightly-used Wilderness, though, and there was no lag at all.

My son rented a Mazda CX-9 on a business trip this summer, and he said the turbo lag was bad.

Very Nice Car. I'm overly practical when I buy a new car, the first thing I check out is how many miles/gal it gets. I rib my older brother who bought a Ford SUV that's the same size with the same options as my SUV. His gets 19 mpg on the highway and mine gets 38 mpg. And he complains about the price of gas, nyuk.

I don't think it's a good idea to try adjusting the lights. There's a good chance you could void the warranty!! I have a Forester and Love it. I can't say enough good about our dealership. I may have posted this on your original thread. Our local animal rescue group was in desperate need of a transport van. Our dealership found one and gave the group a very deep discount!! LOVE Subaru!

One of my kids has (now had) a Crosstrek. They don't live near me so I only have a third-hand story but two weeks ago a connecting rod broke and either it or the crankshaft made a hole in the side of the engine block. Not fixable, the engine would need to be replaced. Time for a new car.

The car always had regular periodic maintenance at the recommended intervals and was not driven too hard.

The screws I'm talking about are meant to be adjusting? That's the point. Has nothing to do with the warranty. We're not talking about sticking some sort of shim in or putting in an aftermarket light???? They're made to do this in EVERY car. It's like when you install a cabinet door, it's a tweaking mechanism. Nothing illicit going on.

I too like the auto high beam dimmer on my new-to-me vehicle.

Rob333, I still have a CD player in my Rogue, a 2019, because I was too cheap to buy a brand new vehicle. I like it better than spotify which cuts out constantly and is just annoying.

Actually I'm using my CD Walkman. Ha!😆 Maybe the buttons could possibly work better.

lol. When I lived in Germany I had a boom box that I played tapes in when driving. Driving around some of those winding roads would make it fly off my passenger seat into the floorboard.

For the last 10 years or more, most cars have been made with USB sockets. These make any other kind of music playing hardware (with the exception of streaming from a smartphone) obsolete.

For those who have a CD music collection, all that's necessary is to "rip" the CDs into sound files. Rip means to create separate sound files using a CD as a source. This may seem daunting but even free iTunes software (both Windows and Mac versions) does a respectable job automatically. And with one step for each CD - start iTunes, then insert the CD into your PC. iTunes will take it from there. Copy the new files from the PC to a thumb drive, then plug the thumb drive into the USB socket of the car and the infotainment system will take it from there.

(There are a few different settings to choose from, equivalent to how many pixels a digital camera has. A high quality setting will produce sound files that when played in the car will sound as good as CDs. And with much more quicker and convenient access). I've prepared selections of my own music collection on thumb drives for friends, including those who drive Subarus, and they work fine.

As an example of the magnitude possible, as music has been a lifelong interest of mine, I have a large collection. Over 20,000 sound files. Over 15,000 of them are in each of my cars on thumb drives or SD cards, it varies by which the car prefers. I can listen to almost everything I have.

I can't rip CDs to itunes, because I do not have an iPhone... But no doubt, there is probably an app for Android. It does sound like a daunting task, but one that's doable. And for me, worthwhile. I'm going to research! Thanks elmer. I totally, FULLY appreciate the guidance.

iTunes is a PC program and it comes in both Windows PC and Mac versions. It will create MP3 files from CDs in separate folders, located in the menu tree of your PC where you direct it to go.

Those folders (containing the music files) can be copied to either Android phones or iPhones. Or, as I mentioned before, to a memory device (like a thumb drive or SD card) of the type your car accepts.

If transferred to a phone, then the connection is via bluetooth. Most all auto infotainment systems find the music files on a smartphone and will allow you to choose and manipulate which files are played from the phone.

I burned CDs to an SD card years ago when the CD player in the Caprice stopped working, but I'd forgotten how to do it. Thanks for the guidance, Elmer!

I tried the headlights for the second time last night, but first I learned a couple of things. One is that the lights should be set on Automatic, and the lever should be pushed forward to enable the high beams. My drive from town consists of 5 miles of a 2-lane highway and 5 miles through the woods on both paved and dirt roads. The paved roads are in poor condition.

I was driving between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., so it was dark, but not completely black. The headlights were okay (not great, but not bad) on the highway. Every time a car came toward me, even from a distance, the car switched to low beams, then back to high after the car passed. I got flashed from an approaching driver once, but he was in a black car with no lights at all. I didn't see him coming, and neither, apparently, did my car. But when he flashed his lights my low beams kicked in immediately.

The other thing I learned was that the car will not enable the high beams if your speed is less than 20 mph. I have no idea why. It makes no sense to me, especially after I experienced it when I got off the highway. Deer were everywhere, with more bucks than I've seen in a while. I slowed down to make sure I didn't hit any, and also to roll through some of the nastier potholes and bumps, and when my speed fell below 20 the high beams quit--just when I needed them to look out for deer. It was frustrating.

I'm sure there's a way to bypass this, probably by getting off the Auto setting. I'll look it up. Last night I turned on the fog lights, and that helped somewhat. So I feel partly encouraged by this experience, but I haven't ruled out getting the lights aimed up a bit.
