Need ideas for kitchen cabinets and countertop

We are looking to change cabinets and countertops. Appliances are black and staying. Floor tiles are beige with some white so neutral warm tone. Been looking at BM Collingwood or SW Agreeable gray for cabinets. Not sure what to do for countertops. Thought about gray for cabinets but can't find a color that ties in to the floor and can't decide if counters should be black or light like a white with black veining. Thinking walls and trim should be light.Any advice, colors etc... would be great

I'd probably do the opposite. Leave the cabinets and counter and change the floor. the cabs /counter and appliances together have a chance at looking good with a new floor. the floor you have has a cocoa / and gray/ and whitish tone...that probably is leading you to think about gray cabinets. But that is not a good route overall. Change the floor. Looks like some blank wall space over on the left...think about a small hutch/bakers rack/serving counter [cart]...something like that to add in something for use and to bring detail into your space.

slate look floors always work w maple cabs and black counters: there are various ones avail in the vinyl products. [lighter walls would help..when you can]

Thank you for the ideas. I really like your ideas for the blank wall I have. Unfortunately the tiles have to stay. Changing them is not an option. Countertop is green and cabinets are 20 yrs old and so we need to change.

We are building on a budget as well, and my husband and I are having these same discussions. Well, GreenDesigns might be right technically. But I have always loved white kitchens... even 30 years ago when I used to go through houses with my parents. They are still my favorite today. The cabinet styles of course have changed over the years, but boy I would pick a house with dated white cabinets over oak and brass every day. So I think you are on the right track with your choices. Wood floors also great. I would go with wood/butcher block countertops over laminate though. Even the Ikea wood countertops. Some work required, but laminate is very limiting when you are cooking, even though I know the choices are far better now. I've lived with both (and marble & granite too) and prefer the butcher block. But that's just me. ;) I'm pulling for a combo of marble and butcher block on our build... the marble is my "splurge" item. Even though it's impractical. Can't wait to see what you choose.

I bet the cabinets are built in place. Moving/removing might destroy them. You may end up saving the doors and having new boxes made. Then they can be any height you want. The sink will be a problem if you don't replace/raise the window, too. You need that sink for the feel of the kitchen if you want to keep the look of the cabs. It will probably cost the same to just buy new cabinets. But that doesn't solve the sink problem in the same foot print. And if you change the foot print then you've opened a new can of worms. Changing the window size would probably be the best thing to do.

I suggest doing your research on fantasy brown if you are considering it. It sounds to me like a marble. (Super white is another that is often billed as quartzite but is is actually usually marble.). Not that there is anything wrong with marble--I chose it for the ktichen in our last house, but I did so knowing what I was getting. Those countertop geology threads are really informative.

for the handles, may I suggest something to pick up on the hues in the flooring? A little more copper toned. you have light cabs, light floors. I think throwing in a dark ORB w/o actual copper highlights would be too much of a contrast. IMO. cypress park Sandra, I like the porcelain one better than the other one. Does the backsplash have to be done immediately? If the tones in the porcelain tile you picked clash w/the ivory tones in the counter, it could be a problem. However, I did find some copper toned ones that should be avail. these are porcelain/SS, and treated so as not to stain or tarnish. I LOVE these for your kitchen. timeless and gorgeous. They are probably not super cheap, but it would be worth it for me. http://www.miusartmosaics.com/arabesque-lantern-beacon-copper-tile-in these would also work. the site is here: maybe they have them in stock.http://www.westsidetile.com/arabesque-tiles/ i like this one too. notice the copper faucet. beautiful w/the glass mosaic. if you got the cream countertop, this would look amazing w/your floors. this last one is a copper colored slate/quartzite.
