Looking into Arctic white, river white, other white Granite with veining, preferably no red. Kitchen currently screaming yellow with badly stained cabinets, circa 1950, not to mention a yellow brick linoleum floor and harvest gold dishwasher. Help!!!

River White does have flecks of red that lean more towards maroon. At first I didn't like the sample of RW that I looked at -- the red actually made me think of blood spatter! But now that we have it in the kitchen and master bathroom, I'm very pleased with it and the red/maroon splotches don't bother me at all; in fact, I think they're pretty.

I would get a granite for the counters that is the same color family as the floor. I think it makes the space look more balanced.

Most of the white granites will have red specks--garnets--in them. It's just the way the stone is formed. I agree that River White is a very nice white granite. Also look at Alaska White.

I just had Blizzard Caesarstone (a gorgeous white - it does have very minute "pixels" of a very light gray in it but they do not show at all unless getting way down with the eyes to look at it) counter tops installed in my small galley kitchen with DalTile Arctic White subway tile back splash. Looks beautiful. Cabinets are being painted a white that looks good with the white counter top. You will love the look.

Adding to say that they had to use only one giant slab and no seams at all for the counter tops. Some Caesarstone comes in the giant slabs and some do not. If you can get by with one giant slab and no seams, that is what I recommend.

Thanks. I will look into that one. Also looking at Alaskan white (one slab I really liked, one not at all. Bianco Antico looks nice on the web, will need to see this in person. I forgot to mention I'll be using white subway tile as well :)

I love the white subway tile. It is really so classic and, to my knowledge, has truly never gone out of vogue. Not just a fad in other words.

Great. As someone who actually rode the subway daily for years, I really like the idea :) Although it hasn't been too stressful yet, I'm hoping this might be the only remodel I have to do. Start date for the remod is October. Side question, I was told that the final measuring can't be done until after demo. Is that true? Does that mean I can't order cabinets until after demo????

White subway tile is indeed a classic. I had it (the original deal) from 1940 in my previous home, and I have it in my current home that was built 3 years ago. It's an excellent choice, and is definitely not just a trend.

Yes, I would wait until final demo is done before having measurements made for your cabinets. I would take a sample of your floor tile, backsplash tile, & a cabinet door to the granite supplier and put them together to ensure you are getting colors that blend together (warm vs cool colors for example, beige vs gray-beige).

I agree with the comments about white cabs and white appliances. Even though your white cabs aren't 'off white' there still could be an off-color appearance due to the glossy white enamel in the appliance finish. Have you considered the new appearance of soft stainless or even black? Stainless is really easier to care for than you might think.

If you want white appliances, you could do the cabinets in stone (gray). I think the gray cabinets would also make it easier to find countertops.

I would make sure that all appliances have the same shade of white - at least the ones that positioned next to each other. I also chose white appliances for my small-all-white kitchen for the same reason as yours - well, to each their own. My appliances are not exposed to direct sunlight-so I'm not too worry about yellowing.

I did black appliances in my very small galley kitchen. My counters are light looks like wood tile, my floors, same but darker. Cabinets are white (not white enough for me but enough). I was worried about the black, but it looks nice. Copper accessories look really good with it too.

Your floor looks very similar in color as the tile I installed. I love it.

One appliance in each wall, nothing next to each other. I still like how the white on white looks and have never had anything yellow, even with alot of light. I will spend today looking at white/white kitchen pics.

I love white/white too. Go for it, if it's what you love. It will make you smile. And smiling is always good in the kitchen.

Hi Louise, What kind/color floor did you go with for the all white kitchen? I think I'm going to drive myself crazy. Never did any kind of renovation before, so I need all the help I can get! (Help!)

I picked a tile-that-looks-wood in a shade very similar to the one you are thinking of.

Cotton White Leathered at HD is very pretty. I'm not sure what the name of it is elsewhere, because I've only seen the name come up there.

I like white appliances with white cabinets. I wish more appliances were still available in white. I'm not a fan of stainless steel.

As someone said above, most of the "white" granites have maroon flecks. I think they are actually garnets. You could look at quartzites which are pricier but don't have those flecks. If you decide to consider that troupe, please read some of the countertop geology threads in the ktichen forums so you know how to tell the difference between quartzites and marbles--stone yards often mislabel stones of all kinds. The engineered quartz tops are another option with more color control.

I don't know what your budget constraints might be, but with that relatively busy floor, I'd be tempted to go quieter with the counters, like maybe a solid gray quartz. You'd still have to match the grays, but you wouldn't have patterns fighting, and you would have a lot of freedom on backsplash choices at that point too...

Backsplash will be white subway tile. Actually want to put the tile on any exposed wall space. I want the focal point to be the Granite counters.

I think that fantasy brown would look great. Especially with the floor choices you made. One that is milder and not strong browns but more tans and gray and white. That's what I have. Look at the fantasy brown thread here for lots of pictures of various slabs. I adore mine. You need some color to break up the whites.

I would much rather have white appliances over the SS that I bought-even with my cream cabinets. However, I just could not find the functionality in all the pieces that I had to buy. My point is that I understand your decision. Go for it!

Exactly! LG no longer makes white appliances (after I finalized all my appliance choices, including the easy clean gas range that I LOVED). I think now they only have SS.

I guess you are going to choose a white sink too. I use Blanco Silgranit and have been very happy with it.

I suggest doing your research on fantasy brown if you are considering it. It sounds to me like a marble. (Super white is another that is often billed as quartzite but is is actually usually marble.). Not that there is anything wrong with marble--I chose it for the ktichen in our last house, but I did so knowing what I was getting. Those countertop geology threads are really informative.
