You live in a warm area. Pruning throughout the year is good for the rose. Forget everything you have read about roses as they are targeting people in colder climates. When I transplant roses, I'll prune a bit of the roots and the top part. Add in some superthrive, water well for 2 to 4 weeks. Do not fertilize until at least mid-February. Don't worry about repruning in Jan. Give your rose plenty of time to re-establish the rooting system. It should do fine. Carol

Ya'll are making me blush! lol!! Seriously, I really do appreciate all your kind words. It makes me smile. Cotehele, my sunroom is not heated either. I did isulate it well though, so I can keep it comfortable with baseboard heaters in the winter and ceiling fans in the summer. The window is a standard exterior window with insulated glass. It is 4' wide and 3' high, a slider. It can be used as a pass-thru to the sunroom. The window has built-in J-channel trim on the outside (like you'd use for vinyl siding and we installed the drywall into that channel. The whole sunroom is drywalled. I can take a picture of how the window looks from the sunroom side this evening, if you'd like more details. If I had it to do again, I'd get a taller window that went all the way down to the granite countertops. I LOVE the way that looks and it would have been easier to pass things through there at a lower height. Cindy

This is a subject near and dear to my heart as we are closing on a house purchase next week and plan to have some work done before moving in. Here is what I would like to have done: 1. Repainting several rooms and painting lots of built in cabinets (currently stained). 2. Change cab pulls and hinges. 3. Take out carpet in family room, master bedroom and master bath and replace with wood (tile in bath). 4. Add recessed lighting several places 5. Remove flourescent lighting in kitchen. 6. Replace a few ceiling fans 7. Convert 3 windows in master bedroom to french doors going out side. 8. Re-do tub/shower area (they are separate and OK but I would like a larger shower and there is room to extend). 9. Remove flourescent lighting above vanity and put in something else. 10. Extend utility room (adding to back of house) 11. Replace doors with glass with more secure doors. 12. Reface brick fireplace with dry stack stone 13. Open up between kitchen and dining room (i.e. take out top half of wall). Rearrange cooktop and refrigerator area. Add island to kitchen. 14. Replace laminate workspace in hobby room with something else. 15. Replace tile in kitchen/foyer. 16. Replace 4 1/2 ft fencing with 6 ft fencing. This will be much easier and cheaper to do before moving in and is not all that expensive. We are cutting back and not doing as much in some areas as I would live as we are deferring other work in those area. We decided not to piecemeal the family room for example. 2. But it is only 3 rooms and can be done later. And, this is an over $10,000 item so it really makes a difference on the budget to defer this a year or two. I would like to defer but I want to get new locks (instead of just rekeying). Sellers have single deadbolts on glass doors and I don't feel secure with that. 12. Reface brick fireplace with dry stack stone - Probably will defer. Would like to do it now but makes sense to do it when we do the flooring. SO deferring flooring means deferring this. 13. Open up between kitchen and dining room (i.e. take out top half of wall). Rearrange cooktop and refrigerator area. Add island to kitchen. - Later. This is a huge project because it also likely means new appliances and new granite. 14. Replace laminate workspace in hobby room with something else. - Not sure. Logically it makes sense to do it now but I'm not sure exactly what I want so I may defer it. 15. Replace tile in kitchen/foyer. - Defer. The current tile is nice and fairly recent just not a color that I personally like. But it isn't objectionable so I will wait on this (probably for years).

Do you have a garage you could keep the bigger furniture in if you choose to do it after moving? We just went through this but we put in hardwood and had carpet in the basement replaced. It is easier to do it while none of your stuff is inside the house, as you don't have to worry about dust collecting on it (both tile and carpet removal stir up a lot of dust) or having to constantly move it out of the way. Keep in mind that paint will get scuffed up during removal and installation of the carpet so you will have to go back and touch it up. Also, I'm not sure if it's different for vinyl but for our floors, the sample board we took home had minimal variation between the planks and minimal knots. I knew the variation would be high because the manufacturer's website said so but our floors has more knots than I was expecting. A non-issue for me because I wanted character and was expecting knots, just not as many. I'm glad I didn't go with the sample board that had a lot more knots and variation as it probably would have been VERY rustic when installed (not my style). So I would choose one that's more on the cleaner side because it may have more variation/rustic-ness to it once it's installed, especially in a big area. it's difficult to base a decision off a sample board alone so I would google your choices and see if you find actual pictures of it installed in people's homes and not software generated images from the manufacturer. That said, all of this may be completely irrelevant with vinyl as it can be controlled when manufactured vs wood, since it's a natural product with a mind of it's own. Also, make sure you have a game plan for the floor under the cabinets if you choose to do the floor now and the cabinets later. Example: if you change the floor now and run it under the dishwasher (which you should to avoid having a lip) and then get new cabinets and countertops down the road, you need to make sure you account for the height differences. If you install the cabinets directly on top of the subfloor but your new countertops will be thicker than they are now, you will run into a problem with finding a dishwasher that will fit in the space. You can always avoid this by laying another layer of plywood under the cabinets so it sits at the same height as the floor, just something to think about for the future!
