Comments (69)Wow, This thread was from 2005... Here is our living room after we re-upholstered the wing back chair (the chair I picked up at Goodwill) We made the curios about 3 or 4 years ago. close-up of the chair, we made the foot stool using the cut down legs from my Mothers coffee table from the 1950's I made the pillows and the Spanish dancer tapestry I won on ebay. the antique folder has been in our family forever...4 generations of children were rocked it it starting in 1908. I got the bunny tapestry from ebay The end table, is also an antique from my hubby's family. I love antique tables and this one is a chess table. The other chair we recently re-upholstered in chocolate valor. When I bought this chair it was covered in chocolate fabric and I always loved it but after 30 + years it needed redoing, so I covered in in gold valor. Since I really missed the chocolate color we re-did it again. This time we eliminated the skirt and made a hard tufted back. The antique table also from Hubby's family, and is my favorite antique in our house....See MoreHow to arrange living room furniture in open living room?
Comments (26)Marie13100, I mentioned in the beginning we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and we needed to move the dining table into our living room temporarily and cover everything from the dust. Lynn G, you’re right. Having to look at the wall would be a bit depressing. The most recent floor plan I posted that had the sectional along the window and long wall would be perfect because we can view directly outside the patio door which is in the dining room....See Moretwo story living room vs vaulted living room
Comments (23)I've got one these right now. It's a beautiful space, but temperature regulation is an issue. Watching TV is an issue, too. The sound is lost in the room and we have to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear. As a retired appraiser, it makes more financial sense to floor the second story portion. While not a wow factor choice, it increases your useable square footage and will result in a corresponding increase in valuation. The point is, there are a lot more factors involved and unintended results of the decision to go with a 2-story high space....See MoreDecluttering
Comments (32)I'm going through this now. Having moved to Florida from NY we brought some of our furniture which really doesn't work here. We had rented a large storage unit in Florida when we first moved and started house hunting. I'm still paying $200 a month for a large unit filled with bookcases, boxes of books, chairs tables, all sorts of things. My husband was a physician and was required to save all his patient records for a minimum of 10 yrs. There are boxes on top of boxes piled to the ceiling of this storage unit full of patient records. The house we bought is not as big as our past home and doesn't have a basement or second floor so there is limited storage space. Our son moved to Florida and had his own place, but moved to our house when Covid broke out. He was laid off from his job. I am grateful because it was when his father got sick and helped me out. So, his stuff is now in the storage unit. I'm not sure how to handle the patient files. They have to be disposed in a private, secure way. Medicare and the American Medical Society have strict rules. So, I began bringing some of them home and looking through them to check dates. Very depressing for me as most notes are handwritten and show me what I already knew, that he was such a caring, compassionate doctor. I looked into Staples and other shredding places but they don't allow me to be present during the shredding. These are very important documents, containing social security numbers, addresses, everything you put on medical forms. So, I am torn between feeling that these charts are such a part of who he was and show a side of him his children have never seen. But I know they do not want to read them and I have to find a way to dispose all these charts and notes. There is so much more of him still in the house, His music, his photos (he was a photographer) his sheet music, speakers, amplifiers. My nephew offered to find a spot where he could burn everything. Again, I'd have to be present. Thought about it, but didn't feel comfortable doing that. So I have boxes, bins and stuff, all over the house. I'm stuck. Sorry, I wrote too much. Deb's post hit a chord. Jane...See MoreSally Brown
