Comments (7)stay with it and try to catch them when the light is strong enough to see by and you might just be rewarded by what can only be described as a bird vortex...when they finally go to roost they will swirl tighter and tighter around the chimney or other suitable spot and one by one drop out of this formation to make their final approach. Unfortunately, if you are in a more heavily urban area with too much light pollution, the street lights coming on right at dusk might make seeing activity above them tough, but keep trying. Its a marvelous thing to watch. Comments (0)Well, I just realized that my KD gave me a mantle shelf on the hood (cabinets are being installed as we speak). Now most of you would say "how could you not have known that?", but, apparently, there are several small details that my guy failed to discuss. I approved the plan based on elevation drawings and architectural schematics, on which it is not obvious that there would be any sort of shelf. In addition, I've just realized that the elevation drawings were not done to scale (the width and height do not match to each other), which IMO is bordering on fraud. All in all, though, I'm pretty happy with what's going in but I would never use him again. Anyway, all of this is fairly off topic for my question (sorry for the rant, but every time I go in there I see something else that either was not what I expected or not the right size). Comments (11)Mine is a simple black shoulder purse...a leather rectangle about 6in. long and 4in. high. There are 5 compartments - a pocket on the front, two main compartments with a zippered compartment in the middle, and a pocket that zips on the back. The back pocket is the only one "exposed" - a large flap covers the main compartments and the front pocket, and has a magnetic clasp. I think I got it a couple of years ago at a department store for $10 or so. It's my "winter" purse. In the front pocket, I keep my pens and work ID, a few business cards, and the occasional shopping list. I try to keep that pocket clear of anything else, so I can easily find a pen when I need one. The first inner compartment holds my checkbook(s) and receipts, the zippered pocket holds change/cash, and the compartment behind that holds a small kleenex holder w/tissues, drugs (painkillers), a teeny bottle of lotion, and any "female" stuff that I need. My planner will fit in there, but I don't carry it, really. The back zippered pocket I rarely use for much - my insurance cards are in there, and not much else. Credit and store cards are in my checkbook. I've always carried a shoulder bag - even in college I just stuck my purse in a big leather shoulder bag I carried books and paper in. I never really cared much for backpacks, and I hate straps across my body, so I guess it's a good thing I don't live in a place where stealing purses is a common crime (two ladies snatched a couple of purses from people shopping at our local walmart last year - they were caught almost immediately and sent to jail for it - and it was big news here). ;-) I do put my purse in the front of carts, but I *never* leave it...if I have to walk away from the cart, my purse goes back on my shoulder, even if DH is with the cart. And the strap of my purse stays securely looped over my knee (tightly, so I can feel it) with my purse on the floor at my feet while I'm in a restarant, so I always know where it is. When I'm watching DH play pool in a bar or something, I leave my purse on the floor of the truck tucked mostly under the dash - when it's dark out, you can't see the black purse...it blends right in with the floor. ;-)...See MoreHave any of you noticed this?
Comments (11)"what's wrong with them?" What age are you talking about? High school? College? Post-college? One thing to consider is that life is pretty stressful right now for young people. High school is ultra competitive between AP classes, extracurriculars and part time jobs for many students. College tuition has increased ridiculous amounts and many college students have to work full time and study full time, when in earlier decades they might have gotten away with just studying or working only part time. Post-grads working retail are likely stressed because they can't find a good job in their field, most of their money goes to student loans, the cost of living is sky high in many areas. They might have young kids (which is exhausting in itself) or financial issues. Stress can cause very nasty physical effects, including exhaustion. It can make it more difficult to eat well and to sleep soundly, which can contribute to fatigue. Maybe instead of assuming they are partying, you could ask them why they are tired. My niece was born on 6-7-89. i have no trouble remembering her birthday.
Here is one kinda creepy, in a fun sort of way. We’ve made it just fine through the first two, so I have no doubt we’ll get through the rest of the month ok too.
