What is your best performer this year?
Comments (20)Thinking of another fragrant one to sub for Holy Mole, I imagine that Stained Glass would be sure to hold its edge....which is not really wide, but then the center is what is wide. It could fade some of the gold, but it is still a good looking plant. Then one that is tough as nails and similar in COLOR to Stained Glass is Dick Ward. Same sort of variegation, light center and dark margins. But not fragrant. Are you looking for a medium-large sort of hosta? or a large? I see that Alex Summers with a dark center and a gold margin is a smooth and well organized hosta. But so is Satisfaction. And the older one of my Satisfactions has a very tough leaf. I got it in 2010, it was my NOID. The new Satisfaction which came this year has not developed the substance the other one has. So if you do not have a Satisfaction, take a look at a mature one and see if it does what you want by your front steps. If the first thing your visitors say is WHAT IS THAT PLANT OUT THERE? you know you made the right choice. :)...See MoreWhat Are Your Best Performing Kordes Roses??
Comments (42)This will be my second season with Bliss Parfuma and I also love it! Extremely healthy with gorgeous blooms that last forever and a lovely bushy, well foliated shrub shape. I have found fragrance to be moderately strong in heat and very strong in cooler temperatures, which might explain how it won the Glasgow Tollcross Fragrance Award. It has a very pleasant and unusual fragrance like a jasmine-based perfume with hints of sweet fruit and…maybe shea butter? I have never grown any other modern Kordes aside from Beverly, which really does have the most amazing peach/plum/citrus fragrance. It has a very attractive growth habit for a hybrid tea and has a low thorn count. I no longer grow it because it frequently developed powdery mildew in my conditions, a weakness it must have inherited from its parent The McCartney Rose. Amongst older Kordes roses, none can be more fragrant, beautiful, charming, romantic or floriferous than Crimson Glory or Barcelona!...See MoreYour best I daylilies 2023
Comments (17)Even though there have been other postings of IN HIGH REGARD, I decided to add mine to the mix. It is one of my favorites in the garden. It is such a clean looking flower. ISABELLE ROSE: Perfection!!! I am frequently disappointed by the Stout Medal winners, but not this one! INQUIRE WITHIN: Another outstanding plant. I love the color combination and plant habit is not too shabby. It is well branched and budded. INDY SHOCKER: Not the best picture. This is the most difficult daylily bloom to photograph regardless of the lighting conditions. It is a well branched and budded plant. Blooms for a long time. The only drawback is that it is slow to increase. Honorable Mentions: IRON WARRIOR: A newer Bennett intro. It is a big bloom. I am hoping that it continues to put out blooms like this. IT'S THE RAGE: Hoping that it gets taller, but I like the teeth. That is it for me. David...See MoreYour 5 best N daylilies 2023
Comments (17)My Navajo Pony does lean. This may be partly due to location-it only gets morning sun. I think Kay ’s plant does better. You can see the scapes leaning here New Paradigm-normally would not make the cut but had more color this past season It usually looks washed out like this No Boys Allowed Hopefully Sherry won’t take my alphabet posting privileges away for posting this! Celeste and Debra both commented on this one in the Ls and I thought they would probably see it sooner on this post. So I will name this photo ”Not liking Like a Gee Six”. I found this close up when I was perusing for Ns. All blooms look like this. So it’s not the quirky form so much as the ugly blooms I don’t like!!...See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
