Another sterling spoon from 49-cent bag of spoons.
Comments (9)With the naked eye the scratches can't be seen. The mark is smaller than the tip of a straightpin, but I have magnified it, enlarged it, many times to get it to the point that you see above. So although it looks real bad, in reality it isn't. At first I couldn't find any mark, other than the Minerva head but somebody told me to look for a dot somewhere on the spoon, as the French are notorious for 'hiding' their marks. Lo and behold after much magnfying I found this. I just haven't quite figured out what exactly the picture is! The letters look like L & G with something in between them, so could be a maker mark, or a place mark....See MoreAnyone Use Grapefruit Spoons?
Comments (9)We have a grapefruit tree so we have grapefruit spoons. The bowls are serrated all around. As well we have a which I wouldn't be without because the twin blades of one end fit on either side of the membrane between sections, separating them nicely. If the sections of a halved grapefruit have been cleanly cut by the knife, then the serrated spoons aren't necessary but I like to use them just the same in case there's a section that's still attached. Otherwise we eat grapefruits cut in halves or quarters out of hand, like oranges. I don't think grapefruit spoons are out of fashion though. I think it just depends on how often you want to eat a halved grapefruit cut into sections. The spoons make it easier to handle. SharonCb...See MoreDinner spoons and soup spoons
Comments (7)A five piece place setting can be anything you choose! It depends on what you decide when you register your pattern. I chose luncheon knife and fork, salad/dessert fork, teaspoon and butter knife. I am currently helping a friend who chose a seafood fork as her 5th piece and wants soup spoons by cruising ebay for her. That piece which Sharon/chase calls a dinner spoon is often called a place spoon and more recently an oval soup spoon. I grew up calling it a dessert spoon...my mother would say "do you want to eat your soup with a dessert spoon or a soup spoon?" LOL! Here are some pieces in a pattern I am collecting for my grandndaughter. Left to right...tea spoon, afterdinner coffee spoon, creamed soup spoon, dessert or place spoon and boullion spoon. The regular place setting pieces I am missing are iced tea spoon, and demitasse. To answer the OP a soup spoon is larger than a teaspoon, whether it's oval or round and it's pretty inefficient eating soup with a teaspoon. Left out of the series, though are serving spoons....which is a whole "nother" thing. BTW the pattern shown is Gorham Wreath dating from 1910, I hope Meg doesn't grow up very fast as I love having it! Linda C...See MoreShow us your spooning Sans!
Comments (28)Such nice forms everybody. Gosh Russ, sounds awful, good luck w/ restoring that. Barbara, all your pix show such gorgeous Sans, really each nicer than the last, I think my plants want to come live w/ you for inspiration! I've had several spoon shaped Sans. over the years, but none now. Just this one, would this be considered a spoon shaped Sans? Not sure. This came to me as no ID, I just really like the form & solid green. Interesting sort of wide open rosette. Had this for a year now, didn't see how dusty it was 'til I took the pic.
