Thanks for sharing this good news! You may have already been advised on this, but Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach, and preferably at the same time every day.

Not sure where you are located, but our pharmacy will do blistere packs free of charge. The pills you need are in a compartment with the time to be taken marked on it. Very helpful.

Glad you are home and not feeling bad. The only advice I can give you is take the Synthroid as soon as you wake up (with a glass of water). Then eat nothing else for an hour. You can drink coffee (I drink chai). Then I take another RX (one for both PVC and PAC).

I think I mentioned in your original thread that my BP went way up this past January due to my Synthroid dose being too high. My cardiologist had me taking my BP RX at bedtime.

Yes pill management can be a challenge. I find it helpful to attach it mentally to something like wake up brush my teeth take my pill that kind of thing. You will figure it out and it will become second nature. Thinking good thoughts for you for a continued easy and complete healing.

You might want to discuss with a doc your using Tums. How often? For what? If it's heartburn a once a day medication might be better in the long run.

Hypocalcemia: low calcium levels in the blood, a complication from thyroid surgery that is usually shortterm and relatively easily treated with calcium pills. If left untreated, low calcium may be associated with muscle twitching or cramping and, if severe, can cause seizures and/or heart problems.

I actually had Hypocalcemia even though I was taking Tums and Vit D was directed by my surgeon. Tingling lips and hands were my signs. That's as far as my symptoms got, but it can be much worse.
Severe hypocalcemia (very low levels of calcium in your blood) can cause the following symptoms:

• Tingling in your lips, tongue, fingers and/or feet.
• Muscle aches.
• Muscle spasms in your throat that make it difficult to breathe (laryngospasm).
• Stiffening and spasms of your muscles (tetany).
• Seizures.

Glad it went well. Yes, Tums interact with Synthroid. Any antacids should be taken at least 4 hours post Synthroid from what I recall. I take my Synthroid right when I get up or else if I am up to use the bathroom close to getting up. Also I think you should wait at leat 30 min for coffee, etc.

Curious - why take Tums rather than a calcium supplement? I take a liquid calcium/magnesium/vit. D gel cap.

I understand magnesium is helpful for calcium absorption.

Glad to hear it went well and you are not having trouble with pain. Balancing and scheduling will take some adjusting but that is so much easier if everything else is going well. Keep up all the good things!

So glad to read your update.. FWIW, DH has gotten into a routine where he takes the synthroid usually at some point in the middle of the night when he goes to the bathroom....... then goes back to sleep. When he wakes up he's fine to eat.

Going to say like the others, taking your thyroid medication at the same time each day is important, on an empty stomach. Birth control pills/HRT pills and calcium supplements or calcium containing drinks or foods can interfere with absorbtion of thyroid medications. In time, you'll find your time of day to take your thyroid pill that works best for you. I take mine at bedtime as that works best for me, but it's always at the same time. If I'm out and about at that whippersnapper hour, I bring it with me and take it at the same time, regardless of what I'm doing, which is usually heading straight to bed ; )
