Mixing glossy and matte tile in master bath and what wall color?

We are planning to use glossy wavy tile in our master shower with natural stone pebbles on the shower floor and niche. The tile floor is Metropolis Avorio that is described as featuring soft whites and grays designed to look like stained concrete. We haven't decided if we should stain the vanities or paint them. We will probably go with a white quartz countertop and have black lighting and brushed nickel faucets. I might paint the walls SW 6184 Austere Gray Austere Gray see link

The pebble concept is up to you. You need a very skilled tile setter for these or the mosaic sheet/square effect will be obvious. Some artisan ability is definitely needed : ) and they need to be well sealed.

That said?

As to the wavy gloss? I don't see it working all that well with the far more "organic" feel of the other two materials. It's far more "glam contemporary" a feel.

I could see keeping it simple and spacious looking, with a repeat of bath floor on shower walls, shoji white walls, and some warm wood

You do not clean your own bathroom, do you? Have some mercy for the one who does and ditch every bit of that. You can not squeegee any of it. Pebbles tend to grow gross fungi between them when not pitched properly.

HU that wasn't helpful Donna, I love those combinations. That paint color has a bit of a green hue to it? I'd look for something close but stick with a true grey tone. I think that bath will be peaceful and relaxing!

why don't you do a porcelain matte black in a 3" hex for the shower floor? it's similar to what you have, but easier to keep clean. you could try something like this for one wall. You might take a look at all of the shower tile layouts here on Houzz to get some ideas.

Oops, K, I never considered the cleaning aspect of bevel. I already ordered the beveled Blair Rectangle Mirror, 114-06 above to go with the style of our frosted window in the shower. They have the same grid only the grid in the shower window is white. I wanted the window grid clear but the mfg (Milguard) doesn't carry it. I haven't looked for a medicine cab yet because I want to see how much space I have. Currently, I have a medicine cab with 3 mirrored doors which I love for makeup and seeing the back of my hair. Carolyn, Thanks for the support on the Crisp Linen choice. I am actually starting to get really excited about this project. I live in Santa Rosa, Ca, scene of the Oct. wildfire causing lead time on vanity/cab to be 10-12 weeks. I waited 16 years for this, guess I can wait a little longer. ;-)

What waterproofing system are you planning to use. That’s the really #1 question. The #2 question is why isn’t your K&B Designer offering you more help here? Shower tile that is hidden like that isn’t nearly as important as when it’s able to be viewed. Nothing looks different enough in the choices to sweat over.

You are not doing a palatial bathroom like the one above my post. You are doing a bathtub that is also a shower, right? You will have to squeeze just a bit of the ribbon tile on either side of your onyx-look center square, and it will not have the same effect as a 9 ft wide swath of it on the wall next to a freestanding tub with a square of onyx tiles, a ceiling that reaches for the heavens and the light of 8 foot high windows on all sides. It will be a small, dark, dingy cave that you are going to spend hours in, getting soap scum and maybe hard water stains off of textured tiles. And about those 24” wide tiles - your tub shower combo is 30 to 32 inches wide. How do you avoid the “sliver of tile at the end “ effect with 24” tiles? Look at bathrooms that are the size of yours and see how choppy it is to use all those different tiles in one room. I would also suggest you choose either cool grays or warm caramel’s. They do not mix well. Go to the “photos” section of Houzz and do a search on “tub/shower combo” and see what looks you like. Keep in mind that the current trend is toward fewer tile choices and a more cohesive look, no lines of deco tiles cutting walls into sections. If you don’t like to clean, look at Corian, Swanstone, and other solid surface products. Ones that are true solid surface have the same color all the way through, no gloss layer, and can be sanded with a 3M kitchen scrubbie if the were to somehow get scratched or scuffed. I have had my Transolid shower 2.5 years now and never scrubbed it once, just wipe down the walls or squeegee after most showers and clean the floor.

I don't think they go together: Your floor tiles is beautiful, organic, great mottling. Your wall tile is slick, uniform, almost plastic looking. I think matte and glossy can go well together in some instances just not these two.

I love your floor tile, it also goes will with the rock floor in the shower. I'd google textured matte shower tile and see what you come up with. How about something like this? I like that they have it in beige tones that would go better than white will with your two floor tiles.

I think the Austere gray is close to looking good with the flooring but just a hint too much green in it. I'd get all of your hard surfaces selected and then choose a paint that unifies them all.

Kendrah, I agree about the wall tile. Since making the post I have decided to go with a matte tile. Your suggestion is very pretty. Thank you!

Here are my final selections. We got rid of the wavy glossy tile and are going with MSI Durban White Matte for the shower walls. And the vanities will be a warm wood. Thanks to everyone for their advice and comments.
