First of all, I had just placed a large order with Willhite for a lot of common veggies, so I really didn't need to buy a lot more things. It's my husband's fault...... I have tomatoes on hand plus I sent a list to Jay that he could choose from to send to me, and I didn't know what I would get from him, etc. Some I based on what I could remember that the Tomato Man's Daughter says are her top choices. So I bought: Carbon Black Krim Black Cherry Hawaiin Pinapple Cherokee Purple Dr Carolyn Sioux Tess's Land Race Now about that garlic.....I don't know. I bought it from a vendor and didn't ask what it was. She had several plates of garlic all cleaned and pretty on plates on her table which I was looking at. A man was trying to choose some and she told him if he was planting it she had some others (not cleaned) and if he wanted those she would throw in some extra. He chose the clean ones. After he left, I told her I wanted some to plant. She pulled out a big bunch and asked me how many I wanted. I said "I'll take what you have in your hand." She counted them and told me the price, then threw in two more. I didn't even think to ask what kind it was because I thought if she could grow it in the Ozarks, then I could grow it here. I asked her if she planted in Sept and harvested in June. She said, "Exactly". A younger lady in the same booth said, "We plant in September or October, and we harvest when it has 3 dead leaves." She also said that they use the small cloves and plant the large ones. I came home and separated all of the cloves. I picked about 4 dozen of the largest cloves and put the rest in a bowl to use in the kitchen. Now the kicker....I paid $4 for the whole thing. Back to the seeds...When we walked in they had a special price for over 25 packs. It was a great price, but I am not going to post it here because they don't post it on their website. Also, I don't know if it was an end of season thing or if this was routine. I thought it was an end of season special, but when I looked at my seeds they were a few mixed in that said for the 2010 season, so now I don't know. I am going back in about a month because one of my friends is having a "fit" because she didn't get to go. LOL We wanted to go back anyway, so taking her back gives us a good excuse. Besides that, I didn't even look at melons, and I've got to buy Collective Farm Women. LOL I admire this company for what they are doing, and for the success of Jere for starting a company when he was 17 and staying with it until it was a big success. On the other side of the coin, he is a bit over the top for my taste. LOL He was walking around the area dressed in a garb that wouldn't have even been considered stylish in the 70's, (but was that old) and was just downright ugly. I thought some of the outfits I had seen him photographed in were bad, but this was too much. Guess if you have money you can "have it your way", but gosh. Anyway, he has a nice place and it is drawing people in, so you have to consider that a success. Oh - and one more thing. They are not open on Saturday. My guess was that it could be their Sabbath, but I didn't ask. Another bonus of the trip was that we went through Seymore and saw three different Amish individuals and couples traveling in their buggy. It was Saturday night. I picked the tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and squash and a few other things, but I made the mistake of telling my DH that I wanted to be sure to look at beans. I didn't. He just went over and bought one of everything that was there...then he hit the peas and okra. He buys big.

Well, I *did* take the baker creek catalouge on my 2nd honeymoon, and spent several hours glazing over my husband's eyes by the fire debaiting which melons/berries/etc... to try. Hippee freak? yep, I must be. That's my kind of honeymoon. Your hubby is very lucky man. I will state I have no connection to Baker Creek. In fact this was the first time I ever saw their catalog. I will say this week I was very disappointed in Territorial Catalog. I wanted to get just one item. Cost about $3.25 for the seeds and $7.00 for shipping. that is over $10. for one pack of seeds. Obviously they only want the big buyers. Now I have already spent well over $100 on seeds and more to come. But if they wanted my bigger order they needed to get their catalog to me faster. As far as I am concerned Territorial has priced itself out of the market for me. I like the Baker Creek Catalog but my favorite to buy seeds is FEDCO. I get seeds for about $1 a pack and no shipping charges. Territorial wants $3 a pack and $7 shipping. I do not have any relationship to any and all seed companies. I speak as an independent buyer. Look if I can get 40 packs of seeds from Fedco at $1 each or $40 total or buy them for $3 each $120 plus even more shipping on a bigger order. Hands down my pockets. Keep the money. I am going to spend $30 before I spend $120. My second big order went to Sandhill Preservation. I support their good work in preserving genetics. They also have some things I wanted that I see no where else. I hope people will support Sandhill in their important work. Now Baker Creek does some heirlooms and had great color. So I was impressed. So I like Fedco and Sandhill. But they do not have the best catalogs. But they keep cost down and sell for a good price. Fine with me. So far I have ordered from 5 seed companies this winter for well over $100 and I want more seeds. so I plan on more orders. wish someone had it all. My choices for Best Company to purchase seeds 1. Fedco best prices and good selection. The best value for the money. 2. Sandhill Preservation. Doing important work to preserve genetics. A good family company at low prices. Both have low cost catalogs. Johnny's everyone likes Johnny's. Great company research on what grows well in the North. Osborn is a good practical company that is geared toward the farmer. If you want Broccolini you might not find it anywhere else but here.

Amy, wow! LOL OH I absolutely love the deviled eggs with the gherkins, lol. Did you add the gherkins on the tops? DH thinks its so funny that I do that, but anyone that tries those, loves them, LOL! I have more of those seasonings if you would like or need more, I keep those on hand until I run out and then will make more. (usually only twice a year, around the time I harvest and dehydrate my peppers) The chocolate habanero salt sounds incredible on your scalloped potatoes! YUM ...My favorite is the cajun ghost, I use that with all kinds of things.... burgars, meatloaf, soups, olive oil dipping & dressings, fries, baked potatoes, potato salad, shrimp, pork chops, beef kabobs, steak tips, even toss a pinch of it on top salads... the list is endless.... The kodiak spice rub is DH's go too for salmon. I dont care for Salmon but he loves it! We do lots of tailgating and bbq's ...so that 'seasoning' is sorta one of my specialtys. Can you tell I enjoy cooking ....LOL So happy to hear you enjoyed those! =) heres a few others too....Let me know if you need more! LOL

I was a very bad girl this weekend, but it was very fun. I spent $12 on seeds and brought home 3 bags. Nothing special. Regular little packets, a few, and then the boxes of seeds they sell with filler in them: wildflower mix, zinnia, shade garden. I do not need any seeds. I do not need any seeds. Too many issues going on for us this month. The latest was yesterday with a big oak in our front yard falling. Our extreme weather has been really bad for a lot of the trees these past few years. We've had a lot of rain this week and I guess the ground just got too soft to support the weight. It hit my car but nothing else was damaged. Got most of it removed today and they should finish up tomorrow. It's still raining and supposed to get down to 38 degrees tonight. I haven't covered or brought in any plants. It's just too wet and messy outside to deal with.

I'm hosting the November swap and will post a very simple swap on the 31st or 1st.

THANK YOU Annie for a FUN month! we enjoyed the weekend weather here by keeping our toes in the sand, (I think it was 87) our weather for Tuesday evening is going down to 36 at night I guess its getting to be that time of year again ... Happy Halloween! and eat lots of chocolate! LOL

Ruth, I am so sorry to hear about your tree and your car. I had a large tree fall on my house when I was in SC and it was terrible. The middle of COVID and very hard to get workers to come out and deal with it.

Yes, Ruth and Jayeanne, that cold weather is heading this way, too. It has been in the 80s and I've had the AC on but I don't think that will happen after today. It's supposed to rain tomorrow but I just plan to stay in. Plenty to do here at home.

Down to sub-floor in two of my downstairs rooms and no functioning stove plus dust like I've never seen from pulling up the carpet and pad and breaking up the tile to take it out. Still finding small pieces or wood and tile here and there ... and don't dare walk around without shoes. One day it will all come together.
