HELP!!!! A quartz that works with Benjamin Moore Cloud White
We are building a new home in a coastal setting. The cabinets have been ordered but are not in. We went with Benjamin Moore Cloud White for the upper cabinets and Benjamin Moore Soft Chinchilla for the lower cabinets and the Island. The kitchen is an open concept plan with the great room. All walls and trim in the kitchen will be Cloud White. We have a spanish tile for the backsplash and over the range. Draw pulls and knobs along with kitchen faucet will be champagne bronze. Sink will be an off white Farmhouse sink. Hardwood pine floors stained with equal parts Minwax special walnut and Minwax Classic Gray. We are struggling terribly with finding the right quartz. We wanted something that looked like cararra marble initially, but without the etching issues marble presents so quartz was the thought. Everything we are reading says to avoid using Carrara Marble "like" with Benjamin Moore Cloud White due to its warmth. Had considered MSI Cararra Lumos and MSI Cashmere Cararra but now very indecisive. We want something simple, not a lot of movement. Comments (11)Many of us have been in your place, wondering which white is right. Only you can really determine what looks good in your space with your light. And of course, the light changes throughout the day. I can only recommend that you begin to winnow it down with large chips, then get sample quarts of the best ones, maybe 4 or 5. Paint something large, like a piece of foamcore so you have enough to look at. Let it sit for a day in one place so you can see the various conditions before you move it to another place. One thing I discovered made it more confusing: It's easy to compare one color against another, but it's meaningless because the color has to work in your space, not against a competitor. So, make sure there is some separation between your finalists. Good luck. Even after I made my final decision, I second-guessed myself for a week or so. Comments (6)I said on another post that i think Cloud White is highy underrated. I find it to be milky, but not creamy. More of a warmer white, not too stark, but not yellowish. They probably wiuld bith work with the colors you selected. I have cloud white with SW Contented and BM Carrington Beige and it works well with both. To my eye, white dove looks more creamy (yellow) in samples than it does in pics of people's cabinets. BM also lists them as coordinating colors. Your best bet is peobably to get large paped samples or sample pots of both to look at in the space once the floors are installed and cabinets are installed. Comments (28)Hi Lindsay et al - I feel like I've inadvertently become an expert on BM whites (the hard way)! In the end I couldn't stand Cloud White in my windowless bathroom. It turned out to be way too yellow next to the greige tile and under the warm halogen pot lights. (am in the process of correcting what I did in there - let's just say Steam by BM wasn't a great choice either). Howeiver, I have used Simply White in a dark hall and also in a very bright bedroom and just love it! The paint guy told me Simply White is 'half Cloud White' and I can see why. The yellow/cream undertone adds a nice 'pick up' to the wall colour while still being white. I did the baseboards and trim also in Simply White but in satin in the bedroom and it looks great. A couple of years ago I did my kitchen in Decorator's White but it turned out to look much too cool and gray next to the creamy white cabinets. My cabinets were apparently done in Oxford White but read more like Simply White to me so the DW really clashed. I went ahead and re-painted the kitchen walls in Oxford White and, while it doesn't match the lacquered OW cabinets perfectly, it looks way better than with the Decorator's White. OW is a toned down version of SW because it has a hint of gray in it. Now, I have used White Dove in my living-dining room and stairwell. It definitely leans more creamy but not in an overly yellow way. I like a more 'true white' kitchen so I didn't/wouldn't carry the White Dove into the kitchen (I also like bit of contrast bewteen my Living-Dining and the Oxford White in the kitchen.
