I think I'm going to get Mrs. B.R. Cant and put her behind my future arbor. I measured the spot and it's a 6 foot diameter from the arbor if I start from the corner. That should do ok, right? There and Eden cl there right now, but I think I'd rather have Mrs. BRC there... I've heard a lot of folks say that Eden cl makes a nice pillar or climbing on an obelisk, so I'm thinking about moving Eden to something like that for a height accent somewhere else. What kind of size on Archduke Charles? 5 feet?? I just thought it was pretty, I suppose it's a minor plus that it's "called" a china. (it seems more like a tea to me??) but I really like the changeable quality. I like Sanguinea... but I hadn't seen Louis-Philippe before... it looks really gorgeous from the photos on HMF. I wish I could see one in person. I wonder if there's one around locally somewhere. Ken, I'm always open to suggestions! Leveson Gower was on my list but I'm waffling on it becuase I have a good amount of full double/complex blooms in that color range and I think I'd rather have SdlM (white). (Though I know people say that Leveson Gower probably isn't a sport of SdlM, they do look similar...) Masha - well it is my birthday soon.... ;)

I grow two Rose de Rescht bushes here in hot, humid Alabama. I planted them last February in all day sun. The bushes are nice rounded mounds that are about 3 ft x 3 ft now. The bushes are attractive and have stayed pretty clean without spraying. The blooms are beautiful and smell like heaven. Each had a big first flush...completely covered in blooms and have had good rebloom since. They haven't been covered in blooms again, but have consistently had several blooms each. The blooms don't last long on the bush and only a day as a cut flower, but the petals fall off and self clean without drying up and turning ugly. Color is pretty true to the first pics below that were taken in very hot September...not as purple as they look in the last couple pics which were taken in spring on a different camera.

I don't think it's an antique rose. Quite a few modern hybrid teas have long sepals like that. And the leaves are definitely modern. Probably an older hybrid tea. Take a look at Tropicana and see if it looks familiar. Here is a link that might be useful: Tropicana with sepals on HMF

Trimmed to be kept smaller for the most part. The original Knock Out, and it's sports (mutations), Blushing Knock Out and Pink Knock Out can exceed 7' tall if left untrimmed. Most people (and municipal sites) keep the plants trimmed back.
