Laundry Room Organizing the Home Design Dilemma

Laundry room/mud room help!

whst would you do in this space to freshen it up? this is our laundry room/mud room coming in from garage off the kitchen. would love to make more efficient on a budget and DIY. two kids in sports so need storage for their stuff, which has been in the bins.

I find sprorts stuff can be stored in the garage for most of it. We had 2 lockers in ours and some hooks on the wall for skates and a nice couple of bins for gloves pads etc. Then your laundry/ mud room can be much tidier and cleaner . You could then have a tall cabinet for all the cleaning stuff and the rest done like a regular mud room , hooks for coats a rack for shoes and you are lucky it appears you do not have tons of dirty laundry in there all the time

I would take the measurements on the W/D wall to your home improvement store and ask them to create a storage solution to fit YOUR space. closed door cabinets.

expose the window... the light makes a difference in how you feel with natural light.

decide what else you need to store and create that on the other wall... invest in an organized future. Do it right and it will change your life.

I have never heard of a building code that would allow for removing the half walls on a porch - someone could fall off. I agree that you need someone to create plans that comply with building codes.

A few updates and I will get some better pictures once i get everything moved out but i have the door into the bathroom cut in. I have been having trouble with Pella who we bought the door from which has put this on a 3 week hold so far as the issue still is not resolved. We are considering stacking the washer dryer. The location we were considering would be where the closest machine to the wall is. The plumbing in the wall was moved over to allow for the new door to the bath and I have some electrical lines that need installing for the new panel in the garage. Doing this while we have the walls open and since the electrical panels are below this. We have a few tiles we bought to see if we liked them but I am not sure i like any of them. I think if i were to pick it would be the darker 12x24. Any thoughts or opinions on tile, stacking of the machine or anything else here?

Ok, I went and picked out some blues, I was hoping to get a pale blue that doesn’t look too beachy and doesn’t look like a baby’s room. These are the swatches I selected. My husband came in and said “why do you have such depressing colors?” Are they depressing? In order top on left: BM beach glass, BM mount Saint Anne, SW sea salt, SW rainwashed, BM quiet moments On right: BM New hope grey, BM smoke The other colors I have in the house are Phillipsburg Blue, Revere Pewter and Greenbrier Beige (which is going away). The new cabinets were just installed in the kitchen and the perimeter is white dove and the island is Hale Navy. For a moment I considered that for in here... too dark?

@Jon Alan If only I had endless funds! Of course, I like your suggestion of adding space behind the house but I'm sure we can't swing that. Maybe a bump out? Extremely unlikely that I can spend any more money on this house. I am curious though, if we moved that bathroom to the area you suggest, what would we do with that red circled area? I had considered inset steps. Would you only do that if we added to that space? If we did it without the extra space, we'd lose 'precious' space in that room. Can't really do anything about the plans in the main house at this point. Walls have been removed and things are in motion. Final decisions have to be made early to mid week. eta - to add photo of the back of the house. (trees have been removed). Not sure how we'd tie into the roof, if we were to add to the back.

This is already a quite well organized and neatly kept room.

Here's a suggestion: Imagine that you walk in the door and confront the hanging backpack and the jumble of brooms, vacuums and whatever else those things are leaning on the wall opposite the door. Try moving them to the wall that has the hooks for handbags temporarily. Would a nice framed artwork in their old place look more welcoming?
