Laundry Room Organizing the Home Design Dilemma

Laundry room/mud room help!

whst would you do in this space to freshen it up? this is our laundry room/mud room coming in from garage off the kitchen. would love to make more efficient on a budget and DIY. two kids in sports so need storage for their stuff, which has been in the bins.

I find sprorts stuff can be stored in the garage for most of it. We had 2 lockers in ours and some hooks on the wall for skates and a nice couple of bins for gloves pads etc. Then your laundry/ mud room can be much tidier and cleaner . You could then have a tall cabinet for all the cleaning stuff and the rest done like a regular mud room , hooks for coats a rack for shoes and you are lucky it appears you do not have tons of dirty laundry in there all the time

I would take the measurements on the W/D wall to your home improvement store and ask them to create a storage solution to fit YOUR space. closed door cabinets.

expose the window... the light makes a difference in how you feel with natural light.

decide what else you need to store and create that on the other wall... invest in an organized future. Do it right and it will change your life.

I wouldn't want my sewing area to be part of the laundry or the mudroom. I can't imagine that it would be all that enjoyable to spend time there. At least not for me. Once I get going on a project, I like to spread out. I also find I need lots of natural light to be comfortable when I'm working on a project. How much light would you really have? I think it would be easier to combine the mudroom and laundry area and then incorporate long term storage if you have extra room in that area. If you like to garden, it could also be space for a utility sink and grow lights or a potting area. I'd steal an extra bedroom and have my sewing area do double duty with a guest bedroom. I have a good sized laundry room and I'm always suprised when people ask why I didn't make the extra space into my sewing area. No one ever asks why I didn't stick the DH and his computer in there! Laundry/Mud Room/Half Bath Layout Help Please

I am attaching a floor plan with measurements of our current laundry room. As we walk in from the garage, the laundry room is on the right and is a rectangle (12'10" x 6'). We are able to steal an alcove type area from our current family room to add to the laundry room. This area will be a total re-do and our goal is to add a toilet and create a mudroom (bench, hooks, landing zone) type area. Dh and I keep going back and forth on whether we should put in a stackable washer/dryer into the alcove, or if it would make more sense to put the toilet there. I've also attached a current photo of the area (not staged). We've only been in this home a couple of months so things are still a bit of a mess! Appreciate any advice!

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I'll give you some thoughts since I had a mudroom very similar. The most used spaces are likely the washer/dryer area and the bench area, which is also the walkway to the garage. Your towers on the sides of the bench stick out into the walkway. I would also want the sink further from the washer/dryer so you have more clear countertop space. Consider including an area for hanging damp clothes, or at least a pull down drying rack. If you stick with your current plan, I would move the pantry to the window wall corner , and then use the empty space in the corner by the door for the dog bed. Next to the bench, you could save money by using open shelves and hooks instead of cabinets. That was more useful for my kid's sports paraphernalia and shoes, for air flow.

A few updates and I will get some better pictures once i get everything moved out but i have the door into the bathroom cut in. I have been having trouble with Pella who we bought the door from which has put this on a 3 week hold so far as the issue still is not resolved. We are considering stacking the washer dryer. The location we were considering would be where the closest machine to the wall is. The plumbing in the wall was moved over to allow for the new door to the bath and I have some electrical lines that need installing for the new panel in the garage. Doing this while we have the walls open and since the electrical panels are below this. We have a few tiles we bought to see if we liked them but I am not sure i like any of them. I think if i were to pick it would be the darker 12x24. Any thoughts or opinions on tile, stacking of the machine or anything else here?

This is already a quite well organized and neatly kept room.

Here's a suggestion: Imagine that you walk in the door and confront the hanging backpack and the jumble of brooms, vacuums and whatever else those things are leaning on the wall opposite the door. Try moving them to the wall that has the hooks for handbags temporarily. Would a nice framed artwork in their old place look more welcoming?
