I would not put anything opposite the collage you have now because your hallway is too narrow. Some people like to move as far away as possible from such displays to take the pictures in as a group. That wouldn't be possible in your space if you had stuff on the opposite wall--- they might back up to see one wall and knock things off the other one. In general, if you have a hallway width less than four feet wide you don't want to line both walls with anything. If you have a long hallway or one punctuated by doors, you can put a grouping on one side, then hang things on the other side of the hall, not opposite but further down, iykwim. I would use a nice painting or print at the end of the hall, unless there is something you want to reflect from the other end.

I agree with moving the table to the top of the stairs; the space seems too small for a table. Not sure what your budget is, but I know you can buy really inexpensive polypropylene runners quite cheaply and I think I'd add one on top of your carpeting...like this: I think it would make all the difference in your entry. I suggest a rectangle or square rug at the door and a runner or second rectangle in the hall. If your door were aligned with the hall I'd suggest one long rug, but they're off just a tad. Two matching rugs that suit the size of each space will still look good. The one above is just to show you how many versions of this same rug they make. Watch for that option when shopping online.

Adding a mirror in the hallway will give you the illusion of having a bigger space and it's perfect near the entrance because everyone needs to have one last look at themselves in the mirror before heading out.
