Constipated Kitty (Warning - LONG)
Comments (16)Hi Everyone, Thank you for the responses, suggestions, and advice. laurief - I found the links you sent to be very informative and helpful, thank you. So, as an update over the past few days... following my last post on Monday, I cleaned the litter-boxes and found that her stool had become more liquidy. I had been informed that if this happened, we would want to lower the dosage. Neither of the vets I had spoken to before was in, but it was recommended that I lower the dose and skip that night, and give her 2 doses the next day and that the nighttime vet I'd been in contact with previously (the one who initially saw and treated her) would call me the following evening. Her stool was liquidy again yesterday, so upon talking with the emergency night vet, we have lowered the dose further to 1 time per day, and as of today stool was back to normal. If this continues, the intent is to lower the dose further on Saturday to every other day, and take her off of it completely within the next week. (YAY!) I asked about the pumpkin, and the vet said that she has never tried this herself, but has heard of it working well and thought it was a good idea for me to try. I have also increased her canned food amount over the past couple days so that she is gettig some every day rather than as an occassional "treat." I have tried the Wellness before, as well as others, but since switching her to Innova she won't touch anything else, so I don't think a complete change in diet is an option right now. But I am going to cut back on the dry food and increase the wet food and try the pumpkin and see how she does. My cats are essentially my kids. They even have health insurance that rivals my own... so I'm going to try whatever I can to get her back to her regular old self!...See MoreKitty Ghost Stripes / Best Kitty Games - General Survey
Comments (8)My cats enjoy the 'Catch Me if you Can' (Walmart has them). It's a battery operated toy that spins around under a tarp erratically. You have to change the batteries frequently but the toy seems to hold their interest. They sell tunnels that were a big hit for my cats for quite some time until the novelty wore off. They still run do them once and awhile, though. I hooked 2 together so they have a long tunnel to buzz through. They make a crinkly sound when they run through them similar to paper bags which are always a delight. I think that you have to keep experimenting with toys until you find what is a hit with your cat. I have a little box of toys accumulated, some they play with some they could care less about. Anything with real fur is preferred here opposed to synthetic. Only of three cats of mine like catnip toys. I have two Bengals that retrieve but they both have different interests. One loves the real fur mice and these plastic jaks I bought in the kids section at the dollar store. The other one loves balls, mainly those plastic colored balls with the slits. She spends a lot of time knocking them around the kitchen floor. (If you squeeze them, the annoying little bell inside comes out). A window seat or a place for kitty to sit and watch the birds and squirrels helps keeps them occupied, too....See MoreShow Us Your Kitties....any color
Comments (55)Both of mine are rescues. Both were abused, one more than the other but both needed a home. Sunny, my little guy died a few years back. Had thyroid issues. Scrawny little guy who didn't stand much of a chance when "Mad Manx" tried to beat him up, but he quickly learned to get under the futon where she couldn't jump him and he had reach on her (long legs) and that would really frustrate her. They did get along quite well all in all, once they got used to each other. Both were used to being the lone cat so it took some adaptation to get used to things. I had him a couple years. KC (short for Krazy Cat) is a Manx who needed a home. We recently celebrated our 7th anniversary together and although she keeps bulking up for the winter she doesn't lose the weight during the summer but she's active, healthy and enjoys running and playing. Nothin' better than chasing that red dot! Was abused at the last place so she's suspicious of anyone but has gotten better. Most of it was by a woman so she's particularly suspicious of women. She's coming out much more lately but does it on her terms. She watches from the next room, then moves into the room, then she'll walk up to the person if she's OK with them and sniff. Often they can pet her then but don't try to pick her up. If she approves of the person she'll usually come and sit in my lap so she can be properly adored. She has declared herself the High Overlord of the place and in deference, I call her "Her Wideness". Yes, when there were birds, squirrels and rabbits to watch, they got along and even shared a window, though neither really wanted to at first. BTW, she was also VERY jealous of his tail and tried to shorten it a couple times via the "CHOMP"! Poor little guy didn't know what to do! She did learn the rules though and begrudgingly followed them....See MoreThe Kitty in the Garden Was A Bobcat
Comments (21)Scott, I love seeing the bobcats and, and the foxes especially because they are so shy they don't show themselves often. I enjoy seeing the ringtailed cats, but sightings of them are very rare (and usually only occur when I see them trying to get into the chicken coop). I just don't want them in the garden with me, or in the yard with the kitty cats are playing and the chickens are free-ranging. It has been years since I've seen or heard a big cat, and I am so relieved to be able to report that. The last sighting of one near us was two years ago this August, but I didn't see that one myself. If ever there was a year I might have expected them it was after the Red River flooded three times this year, and it hasn't happened, so I am fairly comfortable believing there currently are not any of those suckers in our part of the county down here along the river. I enjoy living surrounded by wildlife, but don't want too much of some kinds to be too close. Our little bunny rabbit population is dropping weekly now, so undoubtedly the coyotes are getting them. Dawn...See MoreJilly
