I have an apartment I own and I have a very small open concept kitchen and living room. Not much room for kitchen and living room area. Thinking about building a small island. Right now I just have a bar table and 2 chairs, that I never eat. My dad lives in an apartment downstairs where an addition was put on, and I cook down there nightly for him. I do not have an oven , a small counter area with cabinets, sink and frig. I have a small conception oven and microwave on a rack. I only really have one spot for a tv and a couch and large chair, with an area rug. I love the apartment but am thinking about somehow rearranging it. The walls are a light gray with others that are a darker gray/ blue that I am happy with. I don’t entertain much here, usually downstairs in my fathers larger, not open concept. Beautiful set up. An additional wax put on down there w a cathedral kitchen. I have a bathroom and small bedroom and many closets, small bathroom that does the trick. I took pictures when it wasn’t really clean. I’m thinking of building a narrow island with a couple of stools. It is 5 years old, so no structural work can be done.

I need a to scale floor plan and you need to get smaller scaled furniture . Do the floor plan show every closet and windows and doorwya and where those lead . Do not put in the cabinets only show where the plumbing is and I would like to knpw what that closet is next to the kitchen . Mark all measurements clearly post here in jpeg formt in a comment DO NOT start another post .

Okay. ill do my best to get measurements right. unfor unfortunately if i make any of the 2 pieces of lucingroom furniture to sit on smaller, ill really never be able yo habe more than 2 guests at a time!

It probably seems odd to put back part of the wall that you removed, but that is what I propose. The new short wall would serve to: 1 - hide the refrigerator (usually the least attractive appliance - which I changed to a 30-in counter-depth one btw). The refrigerator is a little out of the way from triangle work space goal, but I think it is worth it to have a kitchen that is pretty to view from your living and dining areas. Along those lines, the refrigerator would be in a full-height and full-depth cabinet. 2- enlarge your pantry to a nice size, with pretty narrow doors that open for full access. 3 - on the living room side, give you back some needed wall space. If you keep a layout similar to what you have now, your large chair or loveseat will not overhang the wall. On the range side of the plan, you could leave the cabinet run exposed, or add a narrow wall there are well. Note that I guessed on a few dimensions, and did not have a scale handy, so I free-handed the drawing. You would want to "field-test" it for sure.

I will look to see if I have a floor plan, but if not, how would i go about creating one for you. I know I sound like an idiot but obviously I am clueless as to this kind of stuff and wish my husband would just let me hire a decorator lol! However, he just now gave me another big fat NO to hiring one lol! So needless to say, I am going to have to learn how to do this on my own and asking for help, however annoying I may be, is the only thing I know to do! So I apologize in advance for my ignorance! I will look for the floor plan! Thanks for responding!

Its hard to tell the depth/distance, especially from the wall the dog food is to the back of the sofa. I also feel like you could afford to back up the sofa bit more. I think you could have the best of both worlds in the nook area with bench under the left window and a small table with chairs, you might be able to get a chair and an end table next to the door on the right.

it is a little awkward with the 2 flooring. I think I would look for something that is taller ( just below the light switch) but narrow so that it can be totally on the carpet but right up to the hardwood with art above

Actually the first picture is how the area was prior to renovations making it into a single floor one bedroom apt.

From what the pictures show, it doesn't look like you'd have space for a small island unless you remove the rack that has the toaster oven and microwave. You would need a lot of space on all sides of an island, especially if having stools for the island as well. If you're open to removing the sofa and building a bunk, that might be a way to have more room in the space. You'd have to have a ladder to get to the top and of course underneath would either be storage or you could keep the couch under the bunk.

Yes, I agree, I would have to build the island to incorporate the microwave, convention oven, etc. I love the picture that you sent of loft like bed. Very cool!
