Powder room paper, light, mirror

I need to redo powder bath. I like the current damask paper but it is 25 years old. Trouble I'm having is that the old wallpaper books are nonexistent. Ordering off the internet is just plain scary. My house decor is traditional and the powder riom look is quiet luxury. Kohler pedestal sink, gold fixtures. Any recommendations for a silky cream/light taupe paper. Also want to change light and mirror.

I usually go to select Sherwin Williams to look at wallpaper books. Some have them and some don’t. I have also seen wallpaper books at some (fancy/expensive) furniture stores but I am too shy to ask if I can look through them. I assume those are only for designers in the store.

Yes. Our local Sherwin Williams use to have the books but they don't anymore. I'll can around to see if another town nearby does.

Allison - the detail on your mirror is just gorgeous! I'd like to find something similar, but perhaps in an oval shape, given the angles of the vanity. I very much like your sconces also. Thanks so much for posting pics. It helps me visualize my space much better. Thank you, brutuses. This little vanity was purchased on ebay and shipped to me last February! It's been sitting in a crate for most of the year waiting for my much delayed remodel. Was it you who was also converting an antique dresser into a bath vanity? If so, I remember your picture and it was just what I wanted, but unfortunately that style was too big for my space.

I would use polished nickel sconces as well. I have a gold leaf mirror over my MRB vanity, and have polished nickel faucets - this is what I did and it looks very nice. I was very conflicted and then I realized that polished nickel is very similar to silver and no one gives a thought about using a gold gilt mirror over a sideboard in a DR that has tons of silver in it! I was right!

This combination of materials in this small room is................a......not good. There doesn't appear to be a basis for the selection of wood-look tile and the metallic disco wallpaper. Selections for such a small room have to be made collectively or you will just add more and more onto the design pile you have created. IMO don't compound the selections with a pendant light to jazz it up. Jazz you got. A good solution,.......not so much. : - ) For a small, utilitarian bathroom like this, I might have started with art as my inspiration and then made the additional selections based on that. You can likely select a dozen paint colors from the art. Any color would be successful in this room. A tall narrow mirror that mimics the curves of your fixtures is the best solution I could arrive at for this space.

If you buy both fixtures from the same manufacturer you are more likely to get a similar look. Frequently they have collections with sconces and ceiling lights that are complementary. I don't know how much room you have over your sink, but for a powder room of this size I think a two or three light fixture is sufficient without a ceiling light - unless there is already a ceiling light that you want to replace. Put your lights on dimmer switches if possible so the light level is flexible.

Look for a local drapery/blinds store, as many of them also carry wallpaper. There are still some wallpaper stores out there, so look for those too.

It is pretty easy to order samples online, but it will usually cost around $5 per sample.

Go online. Check Thibault. They make beautiful damask wallpapers, if that is the direction that you want to go. There are lots of websites that will allow you to get samples. And that sell high end papers for less, if budget is an issue. Why not change things up a bit? You have a beautiful powder room. No need to change anything. Just wallpaper. Why not be bold?

The existing wallpaper reminds me of what was called 'silk' about twenty five years ago. It looked like silk and sometimes looked like vinyl. The company names I recall were Patton or Norwall.

There is a large Benjamin Moore paint store near me that has loads of wallpaper books. So yes check if there are any good paint stores in your area.
