When you have an event as a flood, or in my case, a fire, the insurance checks are ALWAYS made out to you and the mortgage company because they want to make certain their property is repaired. Don't be fooled into thinking it's your house. It's theirs. Legally and period. So that's not (usually) a big deal. Mine went to Countrywide and as bad as they were, they were turned around FedEx within the week. Someone needs to put on their big person pants (and get heads out of the dark places) and quit bowing to pressure from what sounds like a very serious scam to me. Need I remind (DH) anyone there is a 3-day period after which anything signed can be null and voided IN WRITING? If you guys hand out any money, or let the insurance company do that, you'll probably be living in worse frustration that you are now, because it could drag on for YEARS and you'd still be kicking yourself. Fabrics should be included that provide some pattern and texture, otherwise everything will seem flat. Is there a rug (or will be)? What about lamps and lamp shades, desk chair, guest seating, window treatments? Favorite fabrics include Ikat and animal prints, especially in velvet. Baskets and natural wood make nice additions.

wow, you have been busy. its looking great and 100% agree that the new nightstand and moving the tall dresser away from the sleeping area made such a big difference. the art above the bed is great too. the bench below the window in the office area also made a huge difference. as for the color change for the dressers, I wonder if white will wash out the room a bit as you have a lot of light colors like the wall color and carpet. i still like the idea of using the color of the blue console in the office on other pieces. a darker or brighter color will pop a bit more against the wall color... another idea to bring some more pattern or texture in the room is to use wallpaper on the drawer fronts and paint the rest of the piece, maybe in this case you could paint the piece white.

I like the drum style chandelier, as long as it has a diffuser at the bottom. if the ceiling is at all low, you can do a flush mount, like this (from west elm): the black metal fixture suggested above-- very cool looking, but note that style completely changes how the light behaves. the opaque shade directs all the light down and it would be really concentrated on the bed, while the ceiling stays dark. it's a more high contrast look. (think lighting in moody bars or coffee shops, where it's dark overall and there's a low lamp above each table.) on the other hand, light fixtures with transparent shades will bounce light all across the ceiling. it's a more diffused look. there's nothing wrong with one or the other, you just need to decide what you will like more.
