Advice on Sizing Art and Arrangement
Comments (14)Get some rolls of paper, or big pieces of cardboard and try out different sizes and arrangements of pieces you have or are thinking of getting. Tape it up and see what it looks like for balance. Keeping the art - whether it's a single piece or a cluster of small ones - visually about the same size (give or take a few inches) as the furniture or furniture plus accessories. The common mistakes are: Art work too small for size of space or furniture, looks timid and lost Art hung too high and looks "floaty" Art hung too far apart in a cluster, Looks skimpy. Incoherent frame or art choices in a cluster ... this one is hard to explain, but there should be a commonality that the viewer can spot in the pieces. Similar subjects with disparate frames, similar framing unifying disparate subjects, colors across the cluster. Sometimes it the "odd man out" - one picture is just not helping support the group....See MoreIs this the right sized artwork for my study?
Comments (8)I'd go bigger but what you show doesn't look ridiculously small. I think something 36" sq would be better. That's just 3" on each side. But realize trick is finding art in that size, when you've already found something you like....See Moresize of art work behind couch+lamps
Comments (3)The best way to get advice here is to show pictures of the space along with pics of what you have in mind for art. Dimensions of furniture and art are helpful, too. Maybe someone can give you a mock-up with the pictures and info....See MoreWhat shape/size art for this wall
Comments (15)HI -- When I see rooms like this I would love to slap the Architect responsible for the silly little windows . I think I would drape that whole wall end to end and full height . Hiding the windows would look a lot better . Or bookcase that whole wall in between and over and under and around those windows and then have wood blinds the same color on the windows . Then either way a large painting can be hung from wires from the bulkhead over the drapes or the shelving and even over one of the windows if need be. It would have been better to have not had those windows in the first place . Just don't gather or hang between them because that just brings more attention to them ....See MoreJeanne Cardwell
