How old, what are their interests, do they actually use the desk ?No clear help in the sex of the kid either . We have international students and we are required to provide a desk for each one and all those desks do is collect junk they all sit on the bed with a laptop. I am a firm believer in getting the kid to advise what they want and what they need for colors , decor , layout .

Has the tween expressed a desire for a change of view? Were it my room I'd want the head of the bed in the niche with narrow storage on either side and plug-in wall sconces. Then I'd want a desk-drawers unit on the wall where the bed now is.

But maybe the tween prefers to get a good night's sleep where the bed has always been...

Before buying anything, decide on the floor plan. Maybe try bed on the left as you enter, as it will create a more defined sleeping area, will be cozier and more private. Test bed on side wall:

Dresser next to window and take advantage of the long wall for desk and storage if in budget (try Ikea). Look for items that will work into their teens.

We’ll play around with some options and see. I agree having the bed on the left as one enters the room is probably best, either against the wall or in the middle (which I hadn’t thought of as an option so thanks for that suggestion!)

Tuck an alcove with bed. Add a 9" deep ledge and posters above. Under the ledge could have cubbies for phone and chargers and stuff. Paint the alcove a dark color and add wall lights.

Match curtain panels with the color used in the alcove.

Tween tastes quickly become teen tastes and suggest searching for inspiration rooms to help decide on a color scheme and how to incorporate soccer in a way that will still be appealing as he gets older. Don’t fill with lots of themed accessories and suggest for instance shelving for his favorite (soccer) items. The colors below are dull, but wanted to show a focal wall concept (just use his preferred colors).

A mural might work well and be appreciated for many years.

Here's the 9"-10" deep cubbies and shelf. It can be just a shelf and higher if necessary. I like the cubbies because it organizes stuff better.

When painting the alcove, you may want to trim it with a simple molding along the front edge--also could be your kid's favorite colors.

The lighting sconces don't have to be hard wired. IKEA has a good selection for plug-ins.

I was thinking you also have that difference on the right where the bed extends near the closet, where you could rig up a rod and hang Manchester's flag vertically.

I love kid's rooms, my son, now grown, had a cool room but I couldn't get rid of all his friends!

I do not agree thta teens change their love of sports teams much at all. Please go look at the rooms i googled
