Any tips or suggestions for installation of my high back apron sink?

I always get the best feedback from the professionals and homeowners on this forum. I have purchased a high-back apron sink and my contractors are still unsure how they will install it into the cabinet. Would anyone have any advice they could offer? Anything that you found helpful or something that absolutely did not work? If you have any photos of similar projects, that would be so appreciated. This is the sink I purchased (it's labeled drop-in but is meant to be used also as a farmhouse sink) and I added pictures for what I'd like the finished product to look like. Thank you so much!

Neither of your pics are installed especially well or skillfully. With wall taps like that, it’s best to custom build the sink cabinet on site, with all the panels and parts there and prefinished. There will be a ton of scribing involved, so only the highest skilled cabinet makers should be used. There are too many things to go badly wrong when you have fixed location wall taps with an apron sink with a scribed panel. I would honestly recommend just doing a wood cradle with a curtain if you can’t get a high end custom person,

A note on the spec sheet seconds that recommendation:

As Whitehaus Collection Farmhaus Fireclay Sinks are individually handmade, sink sizes can vary and all dimensions are approximate. We strongly recommend that your sink be supplied to your cabinetmaker prior to the fabrication of your kitchen cabinets and countertops. Cutouts are not to be made until they are checked against your sink"

I wonder how this will fit into a standard 24"-deep kitchen cabinet. The diagram specifies that the front edge of the countertop is to be 20-1/2" from the wall -- the front edge of the bowl is to line up with the front edge of the countertop -- and the entire sink is only 22" deep.

Since I came up empty when I did a search before I posted this thread, I thought, perhaps, someone might benefit from the following information on how we solved our lack of support over the dishwasher between an apron-front sink and an oven cabinet dilemma. First, DH attached horizontal 2x4s to studs and two vertical 2x4s (ripped to 1" thick for our application) to the horizontal boards. He then bolted solid cold rolled steel brackets--large 20"X20", 3" wide, 1/2" thick-- to the vertical 2x4s. Before he attached the brackets, he ensured they were completely level. It looked like this: (please pardon the look of the beadboard panel on the left, as it needs another coat of paint and to be trimmed out.) It is important to note that our sink cabinet (on the right) is bumped out by a 2X4 behind it, that also extends behind the dishwasher. DH added the extra vertical board to bring the brackets forward more to cover more of the counter depth. With our particular set-up, and our counters 26" in depth, the tip of the bracket comes to 3.75" from the edge of the countertop, so we are assured it has enough support. We special ordered the brackets online from a company called Short Run Pro. Our fabricator said they would work just fine. These brackets are called Freedom Brackets, and are for stone overhangs where one would not want to see the support. For our application, we did not build them into the support, as they will be hidden behind the dishwasher. They can be ordered in any size and are quite reasonable from what research I found. I think I understand you wall situation, but not sure what gaps you have with the granite -- along the sides? Did you tell them there would be tile on the sides? If not, they should have fit that in closely enough to just caulk it. I have a hutch-like cabinet arrangement in between two walls and that's what we did. No tile or side treatment at all. Each side of my kitchen has cabinets ending in a wall or tall cabinet. We took the splash up to the upper cabinets and ended it at the side -- nothing turning the corner. That would be my first preference. There are some photos of terraced tile sides here. I can't think of names of who has them though. I think that looks better with more contemporary looks, possibly arts & crafts and more modern, and with tiles that have some accents, color variation or other feature that helps with the visual movement. In a more traditional setting, if you have to carry the tile around on the sides, I would probably bring it around more evenly. You could consider taking it to the ceiling -- as if the entire alcove were tiled and you plopped these pieces inside. Take a photo or drawing of the elevation of that wall and make several copies. Draw it out several different ways and try coloring with pencils if you want to play with colors too. Look at them several different times and see what you think overall. Even inexact little pencil lines on a drawing will help you get the feel and will probably tell you which way you like it best in your setting.

An off-center drain towards the back is great. It gives you a lot more space. When the drain is in the center of the sink if I put something down in the sink, I tend put it towards the center - and on the smaller sink there are not that many choices- But when you put something in the center, you end up blocking the drain. That makes me crazy when I'm trying to clean up. When the drain is off in a corner there's much less likelihood that putting something in the sink is going to block it and cause the sink to fill with dirty water...it also gives you a lot more space down below because all the plumbing is off to one side not dead center of the cabinet

I have a Havens Metal copper apron front sink and I still love it after more than three years of use. It still looks great and is almost completely maintenance free as I generally just rinse it to wash crumbs down the drain - at most I sponge with some Dawn detergent if there has been especially greasy stuff in the sink. As posted if you are considering a copper sink you need to make sure you are getting a quality one with a "living" finish instead of the fake factory finishes. You also need to appreciate the aesthetics of a living finish which will never look "shiny" but will always look beautiful. Alex Havens at Havens Metal was great to work with. I wound up with a single bowl with a drain in the left rear which enabled me to have room for both my garbage disposal unit AND a garbage bin that rolled out from under the sink. I bought mine almost four years ago so I don't know what current pricing is. When I bought mine, Havens was a bit cheaper than Rachiele and the quality was equivalent unless you want one of the super fancy finishes for the front that Rachiele offers. Havens Metal FWIW, I did go with a copper sink in my guest bathroom which has a fake factory finish but I went in knowing that the finish was "fake". However I also knew that the sink in the guest bathroom was not going to get the same kind of use as a kitchen sink would so I wasn't worried that the finish would wear off. It has been more than three years that the sink in the guest bathroom has been used and there are no issues with the finish on it. I also don't think I would particularly want a living copper finish in a bathroom but that is just my aesthetics and not based on function except that in my experience a sink with a fake finish in a guest bath is probably okay functionally.

Thank you both for your advice and feedback! Pardon my ignorance in this question, I truly do not know. What is the difference between installing this sink and a traditional farmhouse sink? Do both need to be fabricated on-site?

A ‘ traditional’ farmhouse sink is typically a rectangular bowl so it can go any distance from the wall to allow for cabinet depth and aesthetics- how far out you want it to protrude. Yours has to go against the back wall so that sets the cabinet depth off the bat, and you are locked into custom cabinets due to that.

Thank you! That makes sense! We have ready-to-assemble cabinets that we can modify, which is our plan. This sink is going into our mudroom, which I do feel takes a little pressure off, since it won’t be used as frequently as a kitchen sink. Is there a standard method of fabrication undee the cabinet that pros use to support the heavy sink, in terms of support added to the cabinet under the sink? Thank you again!

What is the width and depth of the sink cabinet?

RTA will never work with that sink, or with that plumbing. Big mistake to even try. You need to move way up the skill and cost ladder on cabinets and labor both. Or return the sink.

You need custom, or to forget that sink in a cabinet. Do a 2x4 cradle with a curtain.

Well, it's certainly going to be tough. The cabinet in the photo is exactly the right size for the front of the sink, 27-1/4". Maybe I'm misinterpreting the specs drawing, but it also appears that the sides of the sink (which must be supported from underneath) are not parallel (the sink gets wider front-to-back). How she will install this sink in an off-the-shelf cabinet and make it look good, well, it'll take ingenuity!

Since the OP can’t understand that the specs aren’t compatible with off the shelf anything, this is going to go about as good as that sounds. Pay attention in math class kiddos!

That is one of the strangest sink base cabinets I've ever seen. I'd get that installed, RTA or not.
