Clematis garden

5 year old clematis with a problem

I often come to this excellent site and usually receive good, thoughtful answers. This clematis was moved 2 years ago. It did beautifully in the former location but it had to move. The former location was about 2 feet away from the new one. Unfortunately. It has been doing poorly since I moved it - do not understand the problem. It bloomed with 5 or 6 beautiful flowers about a month ago and nothing showing for any more.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Perhaps it is just reacting to being moved at a not ideal time of year. Likely it will be fine next year,

No - I moved it proper time - can't remember off the top of my head. Also many posters say they are resilient and can be moved just about any time. It's about to get moved again. Two years worth of little to no growth in this spot. I think ants might be getting to the roots. I have lots of ants and ant hills. Thanks again.

I think it might be because of the weird weather we had this year. The warmest late March/early April in a long time, and then back to cooler temps. The little green nubs you cut off had probably a jump-start, but then, because the soil was still somewhat cold, it stopped putting out stem nubs to take a rest. I have some that hadn't shown up when others were off to a good start. First I gently moved some of the soil at the surface to see if I could little nubs that were still underground. If nothing showed then, I inverted a black nursery pot over the place where I thought the stems should be, to warm up the soil, and waited. Didn't check every day for the first week and some started showing up. I did check more often after that, but the air & soil was still sort of cold. Might also be influenced by where in the garden it is located. My laziest ones are in a Northeast corner near the road. I usually prune my 3s when I see Forsythias blooming, but this year I could see new growth on some vines about 3 weeks earlier. And this is the first year I've had Narcissus bloom in March. I disagree with your last statement...If the bathroom floor is holding down well..you can emboss the floor and install right over top of it. He should used a cement based patch with a latex additive that will mix up extremely smooth and he will skim the entire floor smoothing out like a skating rink..then install the vinyl over top of that...He will need to cut back and patch any curled areas. Also in the kitchen if the seam is split and curled, he may need to cut the seam back to solid well glued material, and patch that area while he is embossing. The portland based patch as opposed to other patches will inhibit mildew growth ...You definitely can install over the old vinyl and if your upstairs bath is asbestos based, it is all the more reason why you should install the new over it from the waste material. Talk to Lowes and to your credit card company and to your state Attorney General's consumer protection division.. You were unhappy with WHers you bought at HD and thought WHers at Lowes would be better? Same (lack of) quality... different color apron. Look at Rheem and Bradford White WHers but they won't be cheap. The BW Whers are made in the US and their customer service is in PA.

Do you expect to get a reasonable answer without providing specific details? You didn't even say whether it's a frontloader or toploader. Most helpful would be stating the model number which would target to a specific machine. There are probably upwards of a hundred models of washing machines sold under the Kenmore brand in the past 5 years. Frontloaders, toploaders, different mechanical designs of both types, sourced from various manufacturers.

move it in fall if you insist.. whats to lose.. if you dont move it.. you will probably shovel prune it.. so give it one more try..

ants are probably not the issue.. unless they honeycombed the entire root mass.. and now they arent functioning properly due to heat and too much air.. etc... and you wouldnt know if you had that many ants under there...

Clematis are not very fussy and are resilient but I would never consider transplanting one in midsummer. That is not likely to have a very successful outcome, even in my very cool, mild summers. They can also pout a bit if disturbed and may not put on significant growth or flowering for a couple of seasons after. Essentially what you are doing is taking them back to starting over as a brand new vine for all intents and purposes and they will need the usual timespan - typically stated as 3 years - for them to reestablish.

Just be patient. Good things come to those that wait :-(( I also agree that ants are unlikely to be a cause for concern.

Thanks to all. Regarding ants. They have turned portions of my garden into "desert" -- they are quite destructive - at least in my yard.

I will wait until fall if I do at all. Maybe I should just leave it alone and give it the 3 years. Not sure what those yellow leaves are all about, though. In its last location, did not do that at all. As I said, this current area is about 2 feet from former. Thanks again.
