Please Help With Bedroom Window Treatment

Our guest bedroom is 10’x14’. We re-install faux off-white window blinds which match the rest of our home. BUT, this room gets west sun and needs additional darkening and softness. If I do curtains and valances, what length for curtains? Should the curtains be identical in length even though the windows are different sizes? The top of windows do line up. Thank you.

I am 110% happy with the light blocking cellular shades I bought that can be positioned either so the bottom half of the window shows, or the top half shows, or the whole window is unobstructed. They will make them for any size window you have if their off-the-shelf in stock stuff doesn't fit. They come in various textures and colors. They are modern and attractive, and don't look the least bit cheap. Check out Hunter Douglas.

Because of the way our bedroom furniture is positioned, we don't have any other curtains or treatment on the windows. You might opt for decorating your room first, and then decide if you feel a need for drapery. If your guests might have allergies they might prefer you skip it.

I also like the HD Duette shades with top-down/bottom-up feature. I have opaque and room darkening ones. Not sure that you have that much room for drapes once you add in the furniture.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I am so glad I found this forum--this is exactly what I was looking for. Sometimes you need fresh eyes. I can see that this site could be a bit addictive! So I didn't think I liked shorter length curtains either, but I'm reconsidering that. Thanks for the helpful photo & input, roarah. I never would have thought about the difference between sill-length and a bit lower, but I see your point. I don't really want Roman shades, as I want to keep the blinds, and I'd like something to cover the sides of the blinds, but thank you for the suggestion. As for the panels to the floor, that was my first choice, but the radiator cover extends out so far that I'm not sure that will look right, even with holdbacks. I have printed out a couple of pics of the window above the radiator, and I'm going to sketch out your suggestions to see how they look. I'll let you know what I decide. Oh, and the bed: There is a floor vent between the bed & radiator cover, so we can't move the bed too much closer. Luckily the frame is on wheels, so it's easy to roll when making the bed. One more question: Normally I line draperies, but since I'm using burlap, I wonder if unlined might look more light-diffusing & charming. Thoughts? Thanks again!

Cobalt blue is a gorgeous color but the walls +the gray headboard + the tan matchstick shades + multiple shades of blue doesnt equal a cohesive sum. Since the wall paint is fresh and pretty and since you like the grey headboard, consider sticking with fewer colors repeated in more elements and then add just one shade of blue as your proverbial pop? The photos that deco added are so pretty partly because they stick closely to plan.

Hey There: Inside mount installation is the way to go. Use bottom up top down honeycomb shades with only 1 inch in depth for a flush mount installation. Make sure you don't have any strings running across your glass or have a fixes header...this will take away from you view and block some glass. Honeycomb fabrics are great for light filtering and improving the heat/cold inside your home because they build an additional layer of insulating air. I love drapes in bedrooms they give an elegance and can provid blackout if that is a must. I would do the same on both windows and where are you puuting the bed ? You have tons of space for drapes .

If you are looking at curtains, we might suggest going with the same length for both windows. However, solar shades can help a lot as well. So it depends on what vibe you are looking at going for in your bedroom.
