Veggie Tales - July 2020
Comments (525)Park Seed has teamed with Joe the Gardener to do a Podcast. I didn’t know he had a television show. It was 97 degrees at 10 am today, but only went up a degree since then. The weather channel is pretty lame as far as posting the actual temperature in this area. It always posts temperatures 4-10 degrees below the actual temperature. Even my weather station is 10 times more accurate. I have to watch the local news or an internet 10 day forecast to get the right temperature. The day it was 105 here, I didn’t find out until 9:00 o’clock that night when I watched the news....See MoreVeggie Tales - July 2021
Comments (222)Lea the storms missed us here. There was wind damage in about 4 locations, 3 in Ohio, and 1 fairly far north of here. We got a hint of rain. between the time I decided to go out and get the pulled onions and when I actually got out there. I think we got about 1/100" We need rain bad here. Good news is we're in the middle of 6 days in a row no hotter than the 70's. The city closed all the pools. I got a letter from my health insurer approving "Removing and Replacing your single lead Defibrillator". I only bring this up because I jokingly said they R&R'd my pacemaker not knowing how up I am on current terminology....See MoreVeggie Tales - July 2022
Comments (143)We just got 1.25" of rain over the past hour and it looks l like another wash out knocking on the door. These storms just pop up like toast. I wished for rain but that 1.25" is enough for now thx :-). I'll need to go out after this next batch and pick the thin skinned heirlooms which are showing any color. Need to do some more melon thumping too. Glad it's raining though, if any melons split open there are many more young ones out there which will benefit greatly from more rain.....Lightning looming, better hit submit.......See MoreVeggie Tales March 2023
Comments (57)A little bit of poking around in the kitchen garden. Trays hardening off a week ago are seeing their first full night outside under the caps. A few of them got planted in. I figure if the overwintered ones are good, the new ones might as well go in where the are supposed to go instead of stayng in the trays. Two bins planted with taters. Kinnebecks. The grapes, raspberries, and asparagus I potted up a week ago got moved out to a cap. A lot of stuff got watered with compost water, the bin under the tumbler was full and brown. A big spending day for the garden. Plant orders. I get to start with the new fruits and nuts this year. A smokehouse apple ordered through a local nursery. I already have a couple apples out back to add this one to. Also picked up German Butterball potatoes to plant two more kitchen bins with. Then it was online ordering. Four pomegranate bushes, two white, two pink. I realize red is more traditional, but pink and white mean less staining. An apricot, ligonberry, jostaberry, flowering currant, serviceberries. A couple shellbark hickories, two each of three kinds of hazelnuts. I think I'm going to need to finish up the plant nursery out back sooner rather than later, lol. I ordered smaller plants, so it's likely I'm going to want to grow them out for a year before planting them out. I'm kind of proud of myself for ordering this year. Usually I think about it too early in the fall when I'm harvesting stuff and it's too early to order plants... then forget about it till I'm out spring plant shopping and it's too late to order what I want. Completely blew the budget. Hopefully it will be worth it in a year or few :)...See Morevgkg Z-7 Va
