Looking for kitchen accent wall color advice - yellow or just white

Hi,

Several years ago I decided to add a yellow accent into our kitchen which has espresso cabinets. Floors are light red oak, natural. Splash is glass tiles.

Now, I got a bit tired of the yellow and wonder whether I simply should go back to white.

Any design advice is very welcome

if it were mine, I would paint it all white for a fresh new look.

a big piece of art for the wall and a new light fixture.

If you're attracted to/appreciate a 1920s "sanitary" klitchen, then you may well be attracted to certain 1920s greens/blues/yellows. Or not! I'd be careful of red, and to a certain extent, cobalt. With black and white, they can read really 1980s. That's most people's point of reference. But that doesn't mean you have to avoid them! Just be careful how you use them, what shades you use, what you use them for etc. I'm not a fan of theme colors. For one thing, it's too hard to keep it going. It looks too forced. And when you have to break it, it can make the other things stand out and look bad. Just find things you and your husband like, don't worry too much about the color. Cookie jars, artwork, table runners, lamps & shades, little rugs, spare mixing bowls or vases lined up on a shelf, etc. You'd be surprised how much color you can bring in with a hamperload of things from other rooms. You mention paint. Paint is good: It can easily be changed when you want a new look. B&W&wood is neutral It will look good with anything!

I would change out the pillows on the sofa (or at least add a pillow) that has a print with some of the blue you want to incorporate into the room. I would do a lighter gray on the walls in the living room with a darker version of the blue on the accent wall, then I'd carry the lighter blue into the kitchen. I love yellow but I would only use it for accents on fabrics or art because its hard to find a yellow wall color like the one in your pillows that works well on walls. It is usually either too stark or too bright.

Get some paint samples of SW Dover White 6385, SW Creamy 7012, and SW Crisp Linen and perhaps some neighboring warm off whites. With Benjamin Moore start with samples of Woodmount Cream 204 and or the close to that chits warm off whites. Take a drawer front with you. This will require a few samples. It's impossible to recommend the right shade by viewing an on line photo. Don't worry your kitchen will be beautiful when done.

Hi - don’t despair! Just give yourself a little time. Warmer bulbs won’t help here as they are likely to enhance any yellow/orange warm tones in the space. The point about Barren Plain and Calm looking a little pink is important. See on the colour wheels above, how close they sit to the Yellow-Red Hue Family? Their proximity to that neighbourhood is where the pinky/peach warmth comes from. It depends upon the quality of available light, just how pronounced those overtones will be. To help mitigate that, choose a colour from further clockwise, away from this region. So that info will help too. If you do decide to repaint, try large swatches or painted boards in your space before finalising. That way you can move them around in both sunlight & shadow to see how they will behave.

Do people still like such glass tile that I have?

I would change the BS to match the lightest color in the counter.

off-white was my initial thought. To make this appear less black and white. However, I do have an adjecant living space that has already white. So, I was thinking to use the same if I repainted white.

I would do a beautiful sage green or a pretty blue ( leaning towards the gray side )

blocks of color can be the correct thing . maybe a more intense shade as this greenish one on the splash..... It will give a more interesting modern vibe to a degree. I wouldnt do a cream or white. I dont dislike what you have but paint is easy and a switch can be nice. How much area is in question? nothing to lose by playing around with a bunch of paint swatch squares.....tape them right up.

Changing the countertop to a more contemporary one…would be the most effective update..if that is out ,changing the splash to tones from the counters will be more cohesive..

Wall color in white will be an improvement toward modernizing..as it will accentuate/highlight the dark cabinets better

Another possibility if you change the counter …is to enlarge the peninsula for more work space ..even adding seating to the peninsula…(removing the table) ….for a much roomier feel…

Sorry just corrected. Lightest color in the granite. Looks like it could be a cream color.
