Comments (28)Hi everyone, First of all, to answer recent questions. From Rick on the 1st. .... Not Noble Descent From Lisa on the 2nd. "One of the many forms of Gee Whiz" ...... Don't know because I've only seen the one form. From Kerry on the 2nd. Red Macaw? ...... I don't know it so I can't say. From Kerry on the 2nd. How many syllables, Nev? ..... I can't say, because I don't know what it is either. It's a plant I posted a while back searching for an ID and I thought maybe someone who hadn't seen the other post may be looking in and know its identity. Oh well, at least it brought out some interesting discussion about plant identification, and it did pass the time away. However, I still don't know the identity of the b...dy plant! This is the whole plant growing beneath 50% green shade cloth ....... ....... and this is another piece from the same plant growing with no overhead protection and taken just after our January heatwave weather. Thanks everyone for joining in my little puzzle, and all the best, Nev....See Morenoid #4
Comments (26)Funny Steve...I was thinking the same thing looking at that thread! However, hers is labeled Ebb Tide...and I have Ebb Tide...and it doesn't look like hers or my NOID. Well...similar but not the same. My "real" Ebb Tide is very tall and fountain shaped. This one is short and lower to the ground...looks like hers is too. I know I didn't purchase two Ebb Tides and this isn't an immature hosta...just short...lol...so what the heck? Here is my "real" one...for size comparison, that is Krossa Regal in front of it and Guardian Angel behind it....See MoreHow did I miss THIS!
Comments (15)Jadie, I know what you mean about can't take your eyes off it. But, it was showing me NOTHING until I turned and SOME ENCHANTING EVENING, YOU MAY SEE A STRANGER.... yes, love at first sight. I didn't know the name.....Now that I know Autumn Frost I am impressed. It is a STAR PERFORMER. It sure does have my attention now! You are right, Babka. Mixing in a pot was suggested in some magazine. It seemed a good way to deal with what I thought would be SMALL HOSTA. Let's say I have several tubs of 3 or 4 and this particular tub is simply explosive. LOTS of star performers in one pot. The 3 Lowes hosta (negative for HVX) share one tub and are probably ready to go solo judging by the size of those babies. At first I said "Too bad it wasn't something new and great." And then I thought, well, somebody like me saw it for the first time too, and I hope it was such an eye-popping moment of discovery, when you knew you'd found a STAR. I hope they felt such a moment. It sure felt great to me, and it wasn't even the real thing. :)...See MoreIdentifying a NOID japanese maple
Comments (10)Since there are many hundreds of JM cultivars on the market, just looking at websites of photos is going to be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack :-) And I've yet to find one that offers a very complete photo gallery anyway - most simply do not have that ability to offer the full range of JM's currrently on the market and the website would be huge if they did. Since the plant came from Iseli's, that would be the first place to start looking. And my experience in being a buyer for a nursery is that most keep pretty thorough records of what they ordered over the years so they can identify the source should they desire or need to order it again. By the same token, Iseli would likely have records as well as to what they sent out and when - I used to receive reprints of the previous year's orders from all my suppliers, together with their current availabilities, to simplify each season's ordering process. Start with the source first, and if that doesn't provide results then turn to the much lengthier process of looking at websites or books to narrow it down. If the nursery doesn't have a copy of Vertrees (they should!), check the local library....See MorePieter zone 7/8 B.C.
