Can you identify an old rose bush?

It is an old rose bush, that has fallen over sideways, but is still full of flowers and producing more. The flowers are pink and open centered, in clusters, fading to white before petals fall, highly perfumed, prolific flowering all summer, healthy and about 4 feet tall. If I were to lose it I would love to find a replacement. I have a photo but cannot see if I can post it here.

all roses take to heavy pruning.. in fact.. it is usually required.. else.. wait for it.. they can fall over... pruning an otherwise healthy plant.. should never kill it...

Most all dead rosebushes look the same, DEAD! If you have big bucks perhaps you could take it to a forensic lab and get DNA from it. But then you'd have to hope there was a DNA base to compare it to. I don't think there is . Not enough call for one. Unless you can positively identify and describe the blooms and leaves, I'm afraid your mission is impossible. Helpmefind .com has an advanced search feature where you put in color, bloom shape, and other descriptive things about your rose. It brings up roses that match but there could be lots of them with none the same as yours. Pictures of many are available also.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I'll get some pictures up on the weekend. In the meantime to answer some questions, this is a rose bush in the home we purchased in May. The previous owners were not interested in gardening beyond mowing the lawn. The owner before them is the person who likely planted the rose bush - she lived in the house for nearly 70 years. So with the combination of the two previous owners' disinterest/advanced age, it's been neglected for at least 10 years. It's quite large - probably 6 feet wide, 4 feet tall and 3 feet deep. The flowers had full, blousey petals, and as I recall,they were a bit under 3 inches across - I'd generically call it a "tea rose." The hips were probably a half inch or so across. It is in a good location where it gets full sun all day. Thanks again for helping me restore it to it's full potential!

Definitely not Blanc Double de Coubert. That rose is nearly all white. This one is a very pale pink. Thanks for trying to ID it. From what I remember from last year,it only blooms in the spring. The darker one in the other picture also seems to only bloom in the spring. This is really a shame since they are both so beautiful and smell heavenly. Nice strong rose scent,not like the newer ones that are somewhat washed out in the scent department for the sake of beautiful, long lasting blooms.

Looks similar, but the rose doesnt get as big as mentioned on hmf. This one stays small and compact, aside from the long canes. The leaf count is the same, my blooms look slightly different, but it is very close. Open to any more suggestions.

Ken, all roses do not take to heavy pruning. There are many roses that do not. Please stop this.

Some roses *abhor* being pruned, and will die back from the point they are cut. Some teas (true teas, NOT hybrid teas), chinas, and even some close species hybrids resent anything but the lightest pruning. The "all roses take to heavy pruning...' should ONLY refer to modern hybrids, such as hybrid teas, floribundas, etc. Even some polyanthas resent heavy pruning, as they tend to produce the sprouts for their next flush just behind the current panicle.

But anyway...yes, we need a photo. Add it in a new comment, and make sure you let the photo fully load (it will go from faded, to sharp/clear) before you hit submit.

Yes, thank you, photo uploaded successfully. I am guessing that it is a floribunda as it has several flowers in clusters.

It could be Carefree Beauty which had a big following and was marketed heavily some few years ago. Today, it's rarely seen, although still available since it was aa featured rose in the Earth-Kind rose collection.

Thank you Moses. It certainly looks like it and the description seems to fit. I am trying to find out if it was ever available in UK, where I live.

Now that I know you are in England, I find it highly unlikely that it is Carefree Beauty. Carefree Beauty is a deeper even pink with few gradations. The blooms of CB are not as neatly presented as the rose in the photo's blooms areare.

The rose in you photo has neat petals in its center, but Carefree Beauty has contorted inner petaloids, a major distinction.

My guess is that your rose is the result of the efforts of an English rose breeder, of which there are quite a few.

It reminds me of Clair Matin because of the color and the clusters and the buds. It has some fragrance. Not sure on leaves. Clair Matin can grow taller than 4' . Blooms fade to a pale color.

It's not Clair Matin.

Stylistically, it reminds me of Kathleen Ferrier, so I'm thinking a 50's-60's floribunda.
