Kitchens Design Dilemma Remodeling

Which would you choose?

I have to put our cabinet order in by tmrw. I have dragging my feet bc I can't make up my mind 😩 I compromised with my husband on this wood grain grey cabinet color for the island. The kitchen perimeter will be white. The kitchen is open to the dining room (one big rectangle) and the coffee/wine bar will be on the dining room wall. Should the bar be white like perimeter or grey like island???
*editing to add - I reallyyy wanted a green island, but this was the only not white cabinet he would agree to.. Trying to make the best out of it since I can't get rid of him! 😂

That is a tough one! My first thought was white, but the grey has some moodiness which I like for the dining room. Plus, it will be an easier transition for your husband when you paint them green some day, lol! Are you doing any tiling/wallpaper behind the dining room cabinets? Good luck with your project!

Haha, I like the way you think! Yes, definitely one or the other - wallpaper or tile, leaning towards tile. Maybe 4x4 Montauk Gin or a pattern. Thanks for your input!

I have a Kohler Tahoe ice grey sink with hoodie ring from when the house was originally built in 1959. Over the past 2-3 years, it has just started to rust at the drain. This is a hall bath and got/gets plenty of use. I believe it is cast iron. The finish is still lovely. So easy to clean. The sink matches the toilet and tub. The sink sits inside a laminate countertop. I will be replacing it with a Kohler ice grey drop in sink, but not likely the Tahoe as that is quite a large sink.

#2 is a real palace. The others are more on the McMansion side. My stepmother grew up in a mansion nicer than all the other pictures, with the exception of #5 of course (the Vanderbilt mansion is just a tad bigger). What you see as "wealthy" can all be relative. Let's be thankful everyday for what we have.

@Stephanie - glad you got the feedback you were looking for just in time. We almost went with the plantinum option 4 based on the recommendation of the tile guy. Then we insisted on the samples! Good luck with your project. @Flo - thanks for the offer. Had the paint already on by the time I saw your note. I was between SW pure white, snowbound and alabaster. Had samples made but the backsplash and countertops were already covered up lol. I had a small tile sample to use. Went with Alabaster, I know it has a hint of yellow, but it matched the baseboard and doors in the kitchen which I wasn’t getting painted. I am now second guessing my decision and thinking that I should have done pure white

You may feel disillusioned with your existing pantry because the access is narrow and the shelves are too deep. I imagine stuff gets lost in the back, and some things are a pain to reach. mdln's suggestion would make better use of your existing space. If you go with the pantry cabinets, how will you use the old pantry space?

I agree - gray. It just seems to fit a DR better (IMO of course).

BTW, can you get an easy reach upper cabinet for the corner instead of the angled? Easy reach really is easier to access in an upper.

I'd probably pick the white and do something different w the counter choice...backsplash option ..stained or painted shelves....maybe insert glass doors in the uppers w lit interior. Dining spots can contain more personalized things not only the table with ts wood species/ or paint ... chairs-covered?? /rug / table decor/ art on walls etc so the white would be a better pick as the gray has to be heeded when choosing the "other things" . If there are no drawers...but why dont you get one drawer with the hinged lowers?? then you are saving money ....and the glass doors w lit interior would be my firm request.

@herbflavor planning on doing glass uppers for the bar (you couldn't tell that's what the rectangles were in my drawing? 🤣). We will be using uppers for the base cabinets, bumping them to 15" depth, so that's why there's no drawers on the bottom. There is a tall window 10" from the wall, so we didn't want to block it with full depth base cabinets. It's kind of hard to describe. Definitely will do something different with the counter and/or backsplash. Thanks so much for you input!

My thought is not to do cabinets at all in the dining room, after all it is not part of the kitchen. Consider using a sideboard, instead, in a color that relates to the island (same eye level) but not one that has any doors which resemble the cabinet fronts.
