Rift sawn white oak will only be available from a high end custom line, while white shaker can be found at all price points. If you are doing that 200K kitchen, that info may not matter. But if you are trying to do a shoestring 40K DIY kitchen, it might make a difference.

Yes we have found that yo be true. We are deciding now based on ease of use and best investment in terms of it lasting a long time and still looking modern and timeless. We have a kid who will and has gotten crayon marks on white cabinets

Crayon on the cabinets can be controlled and said child will grow before you know it. I love rift cut oak and think it won't go out of style for a while but if you really want timeless (there's really no such thing), white is the way to go. We were torn between the two as well and went with white. Not shaker though because we wanted a modern look.

You didn't ask, but I think your layout could be tweaked a bit. At the very least I'd move the stove down so you have more space between it and the range for prep.

Thanks cheri, we are thinking the same. White is timeless and safe but we also loved the warmth of the white oak and the fact that it was modern but also hopefully hide usual kitchen stains .

Can you clarify the moving of the stove down? Do you mean move the cooktop over left or right on the counter ? Thank you for the input !

So it is a totally new buit room, does window need to be in this spot? You don't want to have a sink centered at the window? If you put plan with all the detentions people here might help you get a better design.

I'm gathering the kitchen layout could be better . I'mI'm aware, and not a kitchen designer. I am meeting with a few places to get the layout designed better, thethis is just one version I was presented. I was hoping to gather some information on the material for the cabinets. Will be posting a separate post to hopefully get some tips on how to improve this layout.

That is the bottom line. We here cannot tell you your preference. Only you can decide that.

Post a 2D layout with measurements of the room with all windows and doors measured and showing where everything leads to and you'll get some great help here.

@cpartist you are right, the layout has been stressing me out , I posted it under a new post with all the dimensions , hopefully I can make it better .
