Need help/advice filling wall space PLEASE :)
House is pretty much complete but I have huge areas of blank wall space. I can’t do “big art” on all of them so need some ideas on how to fill it out nicely. If anyone responds, thank you very much!

Comments (14)Hi Lindsey Thanks for your advice! The couch actually doesn’t really fit if it’s turned towards the TV. The fireplace is definitely a focal point in the room so we don’t mind the couch facing that way. It opens us up to the TV and the fireplace. Also, the walls are Behr Silky White, so they are actually much cooler in person than they look in this photo! Comments (35)Creating symmetry could help without adding a lot more items that could create a clutter vibe. You might consider rehanging the three octagon shelving pieces, one centered over each sofa cushion, placed to to form a slightly diagonal line with the smallest one at the high end and the add two new pieces -- higher over the left (aligned with where the first and second cushion meet) and lower than the diagonal line on the right (aligned where the middle and third cushion meet). Make these two newly added boxes or frames or decorative items of similar size and somehow relevant to each other, including the most dominant color. Oh and and a rug and a standing lamp. She has three fairly large plants in there as well. And since they are musical a nice piece of art and a couple of guitars on the wall. Comments (6)Remove all the pieces on that wall. They are undersized, and it would look better empty. You can use very large pieces of art, like large framed posters, or paint a simple graphic design on the wall. Then think about how that space can be functional. Can you angle the sectional to open up the room a bit more? Maybe the side area can be used for a large table and chairs for games/crafts, or a foosball or air hockey table? 10 months agoThat mirror in the dining is the wrong size for such an important wall.
That sideboard is too small for that wall. You can assemble something better from IKEA if funds are an issue.
The rug in the dining area is way too small for these table and chairs.
You have options as to what can be used on the wall. Lots of them
Larger rug works better in the space.
The foyer is the first chance you have to make a good impression. The table is great. Now it just needs a few other items. A mirror would probably be best.
You can get large mirror for a small price at HomeGoods.

10 months agoIf you have no artistic ability and no money for the art you like, you can always purchase primed canvases from a craft store, paint them colors and apply them to the wall. Inexpensive and effective.

10 months agoI used to find a lot of excellent and interesting art and sculptural pieces at thrift stores but HomeGoods seems to have captured the market of what's being donated to thrift stores these days so I've shifted to online auctions for better quality and more interesting pieces.
If there are any local auction houses in your area, check out their online auctions. I've found great pieces for very little money.
One of my most recent is this Curtis Jere, Rainy Day at the Park Wall Sculpture. I paid $40 for it. I saw the same one on 1stDibs for $1200 (no one will ever pay that). I also saw one by the same artist in Architectural Digest on the wall of Viola Davis' house. Maybe she got a bargain too!
Completely agree, go slowly and find things that speak to you.
