Do you speak Texan???
Comments (9)Thanks Linda and Tally, great stuff for big laughs! Do any of y'all know who I mean by Mattress Mac? I have never in my life heard anyone with a Texas accent who talked so fast. I can't hear that fast! A couple of the professors in Waco and Dallas on north to Wichita Falls, I've heard talk something like that, but never close to Mac's speed. My favorite Texas talker is a grand white lady I know up north in the Piney Woods. I don't want to say exactly where because if I do, every professional photographer is gonna go to her directly and offer her lots of money for her help. She's more pro than they could ever be, I guarantee! Since the days of Polaroids - heckfire, maybe since the days of Tin Type! - she's never been one to get smiles by exhorting: "Say Cheese!" She always got right to business and still today, 90 something years old, lines up with us for family photos and gets a smile on every face, every time, with a perfectly timed alternative: "All right now, ever-body...saaaay f#%@!"...See MoreGenerally Speaking on Cabinets To the Ceiling / Your thoughts?
Comments (29)I like the look, especially for an older house, but I just can't imagine getting up there, even with a step stool. My "before kitchen" has 9' walls with 42" wall cabinets - so, one foot of empty space. I stand on the counter when I need to retrieve something I stashed on the top. And I'm tall-ish. How do y'all get up that high?! [OP: Unlike some other answers you're getting, I don't think that the existence of a style 80-100 years ago necessarily makes it timeless or disqualifies it from "trend" status. There's only a finite number of styles and we've cycled through some of them more than once. During theIr off-cycle, they're often perceived as dated. It'll be interesting to see the shelf-life (pun!) of ceiling cabinets, especially in not-old houses. So, basically, I'm no help at all...)...See MoreDielectric fittings on water heater
Comments (5)The inlet/outlet on my (now 10+ year old) State heater are steel. The original installer said dielectric fittings weren't needed, but the connections began to corrode over the next few years. I finally went back and installed them myself, plus a fat copper ground jumper between the copper piping. That reminds me that it's probably time to think about replacing the anode rod again. Don't most HW tank heaters have some sort of coated steel tank? I'd think that, if you have copper piping, you'd need some sort of break in there somewhere (maybe included by the mfr in the OP's example with brass fittings)...See MoreSpeaking of noisy restaurants~~how about
Comments (8)I do not mind normal noise from 7am to 11pm, after that I do not think it is too much too ask for people to be a bit quiet, taking loud phone calls any time of day in the hall is really a nono to me. If we are staying somewhere several days, I pick a nicer hotel. If it is just for a night, I am not as picky. Really it does not matter much if it is a pricey place or not, people are rude everywhere. Pudgeder, in Tahoe we had a room next to the laudry room and we were like 'oh no'. It was one of the quietest rooms we had ever been in. I think they must have insulated it more. I made note of the room # for future stays. I used to worry about being in a room next to dogs. Now I prefer it, esp if the dog owners are older, they are the most polite and quiet people and the dogs are so sweet....See MoreDLM2000-GW
