We were pleased enough with the WooZoo we bought at Costco, we bought 2 more and have three. Very quiet although there is a small blue light at the base when it's operating - does that take it out of the running for you?. In our bedroom, its on in front of a slightly opened window all night all year around. Remote control or touch. They were a special that month and I think I paid $30 ea.

The name is a little silly but we do like the fans. I baked two desserts this morning and put one in my kitchen with the kitchen window open. No residual oven heat left in the room when my baking was done.

I can't recommend a brand, but my daughter in law has a floor model tower, bladeless fan and I was really impressed by how quiet it was and how much airflow.

I have several of these as well as the Baby vornado heaters for the in-between seasons when both AC and furnace are off, but I need a little cooling or heating. Love them Very quiet.

My son has a bladeless one that is amazing. Very quiet, stands on floor, oscillates, etc. It is magic-no idea how they work. Of course, I feel the same about electricity, WIFI...

I have Vornado fans in three of my rooms. A very small one, the 'personal air circulator' in the bathroom, bought before an exhaust fan was installed, and two, the 62 and 630 are whole room table tops and can move a lot of air but have several speeds. I am a 'fan' of Vornado.

The very little fans that come with the USB can be converted to your ac outlet with an adapter...like the ones that come with your phone chargers.

This guy tested the $15 walmart fan vs. the dyson bladeless and the walmart outperformed in both windspeed and quiet.

I have a Dyson AM06 fan (bought refurbished) and it's effective and very quiet. I would never have bought one full price, but here (Canada) Best Buy sells refurbished Dyson products.

A bladeless fan cools the same way a fan with blades cools: by circulating air.....bladeless fans have blades in the base, and then force the air out through holes in the body. I wouldn't hesitate to get another bladeless fan.

Circa 1956, as college student, I bought a small fan made by Westinghouse. It served me well. Got married in 1960 and my wife and I used it cool ourselves on hot summer nights. I've replaced the cord once when its insulation deteriorated. I add oil to the porous sleeve bearings about once every 10 years. It doesn't get much use anymore being that we now have whole house AC, but it yet performs. Its 67 yrs old; I can't complain.

@jemdandy I have a couple Emerson fans that are the same age, or older, then yours. They are still the best mover of air we have ever used. And they look good with their pretty brass blades.

Not ideal for homes with small children.

jemdandy, I know of what you speak about the old school vintage fans. I, too, have a vintage Westinghouse probably about the same age as yours. I dont know what the difference is, but that is the absolutely best table fan in the house, and the only vintage one.

So, I look at it and wonder just what is it that makes it give such a good breeze and be so quiet. Is it the number of blades? the shape of the blades? how fast the blades spin? but, I am amazed at the difference between this and the modern ones that we bought at big box stores!

So many new appliances , big and small, are so lightweight, non repairable and not durable, at all. That one from Walmart or Target wil not stil be running fifty years from now. It may still be on the face of the earth , buried in some garbage mountain somewhere, but be of no service to any life form.

For what it is, I have found the Vornado fans to be pretty good. They are not quiet and I have only had any one of them a couple of seasons. Something will break or burn out on them sometime and there is no small town repair shop to take them to get them fixed.

Personally, I dont care for ceiling fans. They just dont do for me what a table or a stand fan does. We have two of them but very rarely use either.

Buying a new one is always taking a chance because, as a consumer, it is not that easy to really know the technical things that make one different from each other. You will see all manner of promotion of features, such as the fact that it has a handy dandy on/off switch and sleek new design. Other than that, you have to look long and hard to find real information, and you may never find it.

A pox on them all! I think long and hard about buying most anything anymore. There is very little quality or value or durability in things nowadays.

I am wondering how many short tailed cats there were back in the days when a fan blade could really mange a finger. We used them all the time and I never thought about it.

I love my vintage one, but there are no cat tails or small fingers around to get caught it that spinning blade.

As an aside, and speaking of household dangers....I have a metal toy truck that belonged to my now fully grown son. It was made by one of the major companies, dont remember which.. But, this is a truck and trailer that detaches. Son used to sit on it and ride it around the room when he was little. Now, I look at it and i see all the sharp metal edges that, had he fallen on it, may have taken out his eye or left a gash in the skin. Amazing what we accepted as an ordinary and every day danger! This toy is dangerous! As are those fans. But , we loved our fans as they were the only relief we usually had from the heat, before air cond became so common. All we had as kids were fans and popsicles and a garden hose.
