We have two of the Haiku fans (the "1.0" model without the iPhone integration) and cannot say enough about them. They are both in the gloss white finish, one is in our bedroom and the other in our living room. The fans are completely silent -- and I mean totally, completely silent. You will obviously hear the air at some of the higher settings, but the fan itself is really incredible at how silent it is. We ordered the fans together, one with a longer drop than the other, and somehow some of the pieces were mixed up between the two boxes, which caused me a bit of confusion when I first started installing them. Once I figured out what went where, they were relatively straightforward. We did get the LED light kits for both fans, but we very seldom turn them on and frankly are not too impressed with the lights (unlike most modern LEDs, you see each individual diode, and I just don't like the look). All in all, we love the look and functionality of these fans. The price is obviously on the high side, and as a result we are considering alternatives for our guest bedrooms (perhaps the Minka Artemis), but you can't go wrong with the Haiku. Also, just a note about the company/support: we received and installed our Haiku's a day or two before the announcement about the new version. I called their support line, and they had no problem taking back the fans and swapping them for the newer version. Ultimately, we decided it wasn't worth it to us, so we did not take them up on it, but I was impressed with that response. Also, upon installing the bedroom fan, I did hear a bit of noise when the unit was operating. I called their support line and the representative walked me through a few troubleshooting items, and was able to resolve the issue (basically, I had tightened the LED unit too much, and it was rubbing against the motor). You might like the fans (there are some nice "huggers") at Modern Fan Company, or from Minka-Aire (like the Artemis style--the blades are very interesting, there's even an etched-glass blade option. Cool, but I don't know if I want to clean that!) I have 2 Minka "Concept" fans and 1 Minka "Cirque" fan that do not seem to be noisy to me. If I recall correctly, in the box were 2 different lengths of the hanging tube. Both have their own websites, and I think the fans are also sold elsewhere on other websites. (I used one of the Concept fans in my smallish bedroom. Not overwhelming. I go for contemporary styling, too.)

blgamett I recommend you take a look at Hansen Wholesale. Their website is by far the best I've used if you're trying to find a fan that meets a specific set of requirements. You can filter fans by type of light kit, and then sort the results by price and/or light output. Hopefully you can find something that provides adequate light that still like the look of. They have pretty much all the major showroom brands in their catalog. Look for a fan with a large motor (188mm or above) or a DC motor for the best airflow. As for noise levels, Casablanca's non-DC fans tend to be quieter than other manufacturers' non-DC fans, although a DC fan from any manufacturer will be extremely quiet.

I would not put a powered vent fan in the attic. If you are going to do it put in the whirly bird type you may require more than one depending how big the attic is. The whirly birds last for a long time it will spin on it's own due to natural venting. Doesn't require power. They are SILENT. If you live in a hot climate such as Katy, Texas the powered fan will just burn up, you could create more problems than you solve like putting the home under negative pressure as an example.
