Eyeglasses frame style
Comments (4)Ooh, good, I am SO glad you weren't considering pink for your lenses, I haven't seen those since the 70's, and even then they weren't appealing! I wear glasses too, and the unfortunate thing about frames is that you do have to try them on before choosing. Even one millimeter higher or lower on one side or in the middle will make or break the deal. Go in armed with your knowledge and your "want" list and let the salesperson show you those. Hopefully you will score with exactly what you want. I went in last year (my insurance covers up to $300/year for glasses) and I am very hard on my glasses, so I do need to replace them yearly. I headed for the usual wire rim section, my husband headed to the designer section and I got a pair with purple metalic rims and blue metallic arms. Never would have picked them out myself, but they are a good match for me and fun! Every glasses store you see just go in and try on pairs, it is free and you will have a larger search pool. BTW, like the pink frame idea!!! Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: my glasses, but I chose the purple metallic...See MoreWho hoo.....inexpensive eyeglasses!
Comments (25)I think I know what the problem is with the cost for the prescription. I go to the eye dr. every 4 months, because of an eye health issue. Now and then I need a new prescription, most times I don't. The EXAM is different. If you go to the eye dr. and can easily read the chart, that's the end of that part of the exam. However, if you do need a new prescription, they generally use a very expensive piece of equipment to read what prescription you need, then they verify it with the "Which is better this or that?" routine. You're not paying for the piece of paper you get, but the exam itself--which involves extra extra time and equipment. Since I go so often, I can assure you, the price varies by what you have done. If I just go for a quick exam, it's less, if I have my eyes dilated (about once a year), that's a little extra; if I need 'the works'--including the exam for new glasses--that costs the most. You do realize, that taking a pair of glasses you bought new elsewhere to your neighborhood optician to have them fitted is about the same as carrying a cup into McD's with you and going over to the soda machine and filling it, right? Opticians don't appreciate that sort of thing. Many do simple repairs and adjustments for free, no matter where you bought your glasses, but that sort of thing is exactly why many of them are now starting to CHARGE all their customers for those things that used to be just a part of customer service. Opticians, in most states, anyway, are medical professionals who have had to go to school for years, and put a lot of time and effort into learning their specialty. As the mother of one--I can assure you that your gal at LC may have fitted your glasses with a smile on her face while you were in the store, but she wasn't happy about it. After all, she lost time she could have been using to help a paying customer, and she didn't get the commission on the pair of glasses she fitted to your face. Opticians really do consider that kind of thing very rude. They are generally much too professional to tell you that to your face, but they're just working people like you and I, trying to make it, and they can't really afford to give their work away for free--although a lot of people think they should....See MoreWhat's hip in eyeglass land?
Comments (57)I see that Warby Parker will ship you 5 frames to try on at home if there is not a store near you. I do like their styles, and they don't seem to be incredibly expensive. I mostly wear my frames at home, so buying a new fancy pair seems like a waste. I've had these Prada frames for a few years now. I still get a lot of compliments on them when I wear them even if they are not the latest trend. I am lucky I have a good fit with multifocal contacts. I asked my eye doctor last exam in March about cataracts, and luckily I am good for now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prada-Orange-Brown-Rectangular-Eye-Glasses-Model-VPR-03H-51-16-7BP-101-135-/161709278233?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a69fc419...See MoreTime for new eyeglasses, what kind do you wear?
Comments (47)My glasses arrived this morning. Good news and bad news. Rob, thank you for linking Eyebuy Direct, they did a GREAT job! The good news is that my vision is crisp, clear and much better than it has been for several years, with the glasses. A real difference. The bad news is that now when I look in the mirror using the new computer glasses (I got a pair of bifocals and a pair of computer glasses) I can see every eyebrow hair, pore, and unevenly applied makeup job and what I thought was an acceptable makeup job clearly is not, so I'll be spending a tad more time applying stuff....See MoreElmer J Fudd
