And so it begins...wedding guest dress
Comments (150)Just checking back in here. You've been busy. I love the RL dress on you too. I suspect the other is also really flattering, but that the overexposure of the lighting on the pic and maybe the pic angle makes it not as enticing as the RL. Either one would be perfect. Are you in the mood for silvery/pewter shoes? I just bought these at Dillards (amazing selection I'll add) to wear this weekend as stepmom of Bride. They are comfy enough for me to wear and still act as hostess at this wedding. By J Renee and pretty affordable. I'm a lot taller than you, but have the same figure issues, ie shapely ample tush and bustline. For this "black tie optional" wedding all the bridesmaids will be in long dresses as will I. I ended up buying a dress in the salon the day we went wedding dress shopping, at Sweet Elegance in Atlanta where they were absolutely wonderful. And I went with a mock wrap - silver, beaded. Still haven't decided on jewelry. sigh. Wedding is in three days. (why do they picture a 20-something in a dress meant for MOB?) I made my dresses for my two sons weddings, but making it this time was going to be a logistical nightmare. Have a wonderful time at your barn wedding....See MoreWedding musings part two - guest list
Comments (20)"Second roadblock is that my dad's increasing mental illness is making it impossible for us to stay in the house I inherited from my mother. Since dad bought it and owned it, he is harassing us constantly even though he no longer lives there." With the stipulation that it's none of my business ;), the above statement is one of the major issues you mention repeatedly in your discussions of what is stressing you. I"m wondering how the situation occurred; were your parents divorced? In most marital inheritance situations the surviving spouse inherits the home so not sure why you inherited a mother's house while father is still alive. Regardless one step you can take is to get out of there and cut the financial dependence toxic string. Your father literally is in control of the roof over your head so severing that control seems to be a very important and necessary first step. And then Pinkmountain, I strongly suggest you find a good therapist. Reading this topic and the other one you started recently, there seems to be an incredible stew of negativity in your life and you seem to find reasons that you have to continue to season, stir and nourish yourself on that stew. You can't disassociate yourself from your father, you can't plan a simple wedding that won't stress you out more, etc etc. I'm not writing this to slam you although it may feel that way. But in life, when we get into a damaging loop of emotional and decision making that is guaranteed to keep us miserable and/or make us more so.....I think it's time to get some help. If nothing else you can ask about anticipatory caregiving stress which is clearly a huge issue for you--it's worrying about a future that, frankly, you cannot control and which may not even happen. You are spending huge amounts of time resenting your father for what you THINK is going to happen to him--and you have absolutely no say in his decisions that will lead him along his life path, whatever it may be. You do however have complete control of how you will and can deal with his decisions, and therapy can help you figure out how you get clarity on not only those boundaries but on how you can live within them at peace with yourself. Personally I liken it to taking the car in if it's not running right or going to the doctor to get medicine that will cure my body if I'm ill. Emotional and personal misery can be helped, and there may even be a physical component. Meds and therapy can be an incredibly helpful combination, or therapy alone. Regardless we all know the definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. Continuing to agonize while staying stuck in a financial, family or life decision cycle that is negative is never going to get you into a better place. Good luck, I truly hope you find a way to get peace and joy back in your life....See MoreWedding guest outfits rant and plea for help
Comments (56)More random ranting: LOL Robo about the WASP weddings. There's a bit of WASP vs ethnic and also introvert vs extrovert going in my relationship with SO. I am however, half WASP, really waspy WASP, (as in Anglo Saxon protestant, not Teutonic protestant) so I am used to some of the restraint, to say the least . . . :) I also found out that the color for the wedding is not "red" per se, rather it is crimson, so the shirt/tie combo I liked will have to go back regardless. On the plus side, with a light grey shirt, the suit and shirt will also pass for our wedding, so that will save us some money from having to buy two shirts. I only suggested the red shirt combo because it was on super sale. Here's a photo so you can see what I was envisioning with SO's dark coloring. Surprisingly, SO liked the flouncy floral dresses, particularly the one with the grey background. He thought they would be flattering for my figure. He opined, not without merit, that an a-line dress might be too form-fitting and emphasize my less-than-perfectly-proportional hips. Possibly not, but only trying on will tell. I think I will order all three dresses....See MoreWedding guest dress question
Comments (27)Ratherbe that blue one is really beautiful. I would love to have that shape. lol I have something similar from about 10 years ago in black with some little sleeves. I bought it at TJM without any reason to buy it- except that it was 39.99, fit great and was very comfy and flattering. I kept hearing my late dear mom telling me " buy it- don't leave it behind--your closet needs it". I have worn it so many times over the years and might even wear it in June to a wedding. ( I might have put on more weight than it can flatter ...so that's why I'm looking here too)....See Morecarol
