Paint Design Dilemma

Need advice for paint color for dining room in open concept layout.

While we have an open concept, the dining room actually has 3 sides so it is somewhat a stand alone room but is adjacent to living space. We have a mix of medium tone wood flooring and cream carpeting. Kitchen cabinets are a creamy latte on top and expresso on bottoms and island. Sofa/loveseat are cream. Accent chairs at fireplace and the ones in kitchenette are dark red. We have an upholstered accent chair that is cream, with red and black tones. Coffee and end tables are black. Our style is more contemporary/transitional. Wall paint is Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams. We ae not afraid to go bold but don't want to make it too busy. Considered gray but that tone seems to be on the "way out". Can't wait to hear your suggestions!

A mid-tone to deep taupe could work well. SW Taupe Tone, Keystone Gray or Mega Greige perhaps, depending on the trim color.

You biggest issue is low natural light. That is when I treat any room as if it were facing North. Two North colors which will correspond to silver half dollar (although a basement color need not be included..it was a link for me). I would go red or blue…nixing red…because you are painting more than just the kitchen... B.M. Sea Reflections. Help! Paint Color for Open Concept living/dining kitchen row home

Before we sold our last home, I had a really excellent painter come in and paint the bedrooms, a few walls of our great room, our home office, and the entryway in Dover White by Sherwin Williams. He loved it and actually used it on a few subsequent projects. We also loved it. My kitchen and dining area were in a color called "green plum passion" by valspar, and the Dover White complemented this color as well. I think it would look great with a satin white trim and a bright white ceiling. We had similar color tile to what you have on your kitchen floor, which went well with the Dover White. A friend recently painted her condo (which is an interior unit and doesn't get a ton of light) in Sherwin Willams 9109 Natural Linen. She says when she buys/builds her next house she'll use it everywhere... Hope these thoughts are helpful.

I will look to see if I have a floor plan, but if not, how would i go about creating one for you. I know I sound like an idiot but obviously I am clueless as to this kind of stuff and wish my husband would just let me hire a decorator lol! However, he just now gave me another big fat NO to hiring one lol! So needless to say, I am going to have to learn how to do this on my own and asking for help, however annoying I may be, is the only thing I know to do! So I apologize in advance for my ignorance! THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A BIG AREA RUG IN THE CENTER BECAUSE IT WILL UNBALANCE THE DINING CHAIRS EVERY TIME YOU USE. YOU CAN ADD A RUG UNDER THE CHAIRS IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPACE A FOOT REST WOULD BE NICE IN FRONT OF IT. SOME INSPIRATIONAL PHOTOS MIGHT HELP

I have no idea what fortune teller decided to share that gray is on its way out! And, it is always "gray". Does the fortune teller know that there are blue grays, green grays, pink grays, green grays, purple grays (one of my favorites is Excalibur Gray for a north facing room) ? Then there is my best friend's (to die for) gray hair.

Sorry, but gray is probably going "out" because too many people made the mistake of using grays with blue undertones, which almost always look off in living spaces (think baby blue). As a professional color consultant, in the last five years, the number one complaint I've heard from customers seeking my help was something to the effect of "I don't know why my gray turned blue." Because it was blue! Misty is blue -- not a color I would recommend for a living space (but fine for a bathroom or bedroom).

@Yonder Way Designs, Too many people used grays with blue undertones? You say you have been a professional color consultant for five years? Yikes. I see no credentials in your profile. Had you considered it may be natural light which presents the gray as blue to your customer? Do you feel confident contradicting Sherwin Williams pairing Accessible Beige with Misty? Do you have any idea of how many professional designers comment on houzz?

Why not share your opinion for a paint color for @janesterly's dining room?

BTW, baby blue has no gray undertones.

@elcieg, wow, a lot of negativity here! Yes, I am a professional color consultant; I actually worked for Sherwin-Williams as a color consultant and have worked almost exclusively with their colors for nearly 20 years. I am not contradicting pairing Accessible Beige with Misty; however, I believe it is a poor choice for the author's living space as described. I have no problem offering personal advice with professional confidence. Perhaps you've noticed by now that I had offered @janesterly some color options for her space. Also, you misunderstood: gray with blue undertones (in lighter shades) gives off a baby blue vibe -- and I stand behind that statement!
