Empty tv wall in my living room
Pleas help me redo this living room. We are thinking to get a sofa and 2 chairs, the sectional feels like it’s blocking the flow from the kitchen too much. And the TV wall - I just hate it! We are planning to repaint our he room and add more lights. Though what color? How many lights?
Any advice is appreciated!

11 months agoI would paint the walls a light cream color. Put a grey three seater sofa on the wall where the TV is and put the TV over the fire place. Add grey and yellow pillows, a beige natural sisal rug to complement traditional cherry kitchen. Reclaimed wood shelves on each side of the sofa look nice and a matching reclaimed wood table. To finish things off add two leather recliners in front of the window

Comments (11)I would leave the TV where it is; it is at the appropriate height for viewing. I would paint that wall to match the others in the room. It would diminish the contrast between the TV and wall. I would place minimal if any artwork around the TV. You are going to run into problems placing your pieces around the various switches. I don't see any lamps in your room. I would focus on lighting and window treatments next. I love your area rug - I would find some way to use that beautiful shade of blue as an accent color. Comments (8)oops, Denita, no pics. here are a few from the Houzz store, just for brainstorming. there are lots of consoles that combine housing for the cable box et al with lots of extra cupboard space, so you should have plenty of options. Ikea makes a lot of great pieces in this particular category too, so you could look there. Comments (7)I suggest grouping whatever living room furniture you buy around the fireplace. It is what I did in my long living room (mine is wider than yours). Here are some layout suggestions: Before you buy any furniture, make sure you have the room to lay it out something similar to the above suggestions. Put tape on the floor, if you have to and make sure you have enough room to walk around the furniture. You can also try Basset Furniture and/or La-Z-Boy showrooms. They can help you with furniture arrangement and they do not charge you, like a designer does. For the TV, you could either get an entertainment center that will fit right or left of the fireplace or your could even mount your TV on the wall (I have 2 TV's that are wall mounted and I love it). When I was getting ready to move into my house 3 years ago, I needed brand new living room, dining room, and family room furniture. I shopped sales and I found my 2 sofas that are in my living room first at a furniture store selling La-Z-Boy furniture. I got lucky! The sofas were on sale for over 60% off and after choosing them, everything else fell into place. For the family room, I went to a La-Z-Boy showroom, found a reclining sofa I loved, and it was also on sale. I choose soft, neutral colors for it and two rocking recliners. We use this room to relax and watch movies on our big TV in the family room. Comments (30)jennifer, if you want to do a slat wood wall (there are a lot of tutorials on how to do it. it's mainly 1x1 or 1x2 wood 'sticks' that are 8'-10' tall. you could use fir and stain them. or you could paint them black. or, if you have a bigger budget, get walnut or something similar. walnut you'd only have to oil. it's a red wood. just a medium brown tone that would great w/the floors. if you like a more natural color, look at 1x2 white oak pieces. (any lumber place should have them) a satin oil finish is all you would need. those can also be stained a walnut color. (oak is cheaper than natural walnut this one is actually poplar that they painted. if you're goign to paint, use poplar wood https://brepurposed.porch.com/2020/01/20/diy-wood-slat-walls/ so, you'd paint the wall black, and attatch the slats. this looks like Alder that has been stained a darker walnut stain. here's the lighter stain color. you could also get plywood and rip it to 1" pieces (however, plywood and lumber have skyrocketed this last year. it's ridiculous what a sheet of plywood costs.) https://simplyalignedhome.com/affordable-slat-wall/ I think if you even did the entry niche w/some type of slat or design would look great I'd go all the way down, and prop paint it black, or do the wall in black and do walnut wood pieces. or, I like this too. find a cool black/white/gray piece of art, something more vertical, and hang it. bring in some bright color stools to fit under the marble. bring in a entry way rug that matches or make a cool design and use that as your art element in the niche (I actually made a headboard similar to this one out of scrap wood pieces. came out really cool) over on the dining wall, you could easily do a living plant wall...See MoreNikki Robertson

11 months agolast modified: 11 months agoWhat if you divide the room into the TV area and the fireplace area. Our living room seating is arranged around the TV but we have a cozy fireplace nook across the room with its own rug and chairs.
Here is my concept for that area below. The mirror could be higher and there is room for your two tall slim lamps. There is an area rug (5x7?) outlined by the pink square. I added a woven pouf. I don't think you need a mirror and table lamp under the stairs so I blurred them out.
This way there is room for a sofa facing the TV (same wall it is now) and a recliner with it. You might have to move the TV/sofa to the left a bit but that's okay with the new seating area taking up space by the fp. I agree white or off-white walls will brighten the room.
In this case, get a lower entertainment console for the TV and a floor lamp with it, Then move the chest to the right and hang a nice painting over it and place a table lamp on it.Amanda Smith
