Looking to get a Toilet with a built-in Bidet - Anyone have a Kohler?

We are re-doing our powder room and we want to install a toilet with a built-in bidet. The options are a Kohler one-piece currently on sale (for another 3 days) at Costco or a Toto toilet + washlet pair. The Toto combination is considerably more $$ but I wonder if you get what you pay for. The Kohler on sale at Costco is the Kohler Jaro One-Piece Smart Toilet. Does anyone have either one of these? Any comments, recommendations?

We did the Toto combo--one of the selling points of it was that it wasn't an integrated unit, so at any point in the future we could remove the bidet, get a standard seat, and have a typical toilet. Toto does make some integrated ones too but they are crazy expensive and seemed like a potential liability for replacement. Even on sale, the Jaro is nearly double what we paid for the Washlet plus the Promenade II. (We have a mid-range Washlet--I'd have to look up the specific model, but it's one with a separate remote and an on-demand water heater vs. a tank, which were two things we specifically wanted. It's only been in a year, but so far seems great except that it "talks" a lot--running through cycles to clean itself at odd times, etc. But that is apparently par for the course! No idea how it compares to the Kohler bidet, though.)

Separate toilet and bidet seat is always the best choice. Toto will always be the best choice.

NEVER TOUCH A PORCHER TOILET! Seriously, they look nice, but no nicer than plenty of other toilets. And they work fine, just like plenty of others. But, the outrageous price aside, parts cannot be bougth retail (not even at dealers/distributors), so add seven days and $15 for shipping - and it requires PROPRIETARY PARTS! That's right. No walking into Home Depot and buying a flapper or a seat. That will be $90 for their equivalent of a flapper and $125 upwards for a seat, plus shipping. And then the seat cannot be fit under some normal circumstances (non-replaceable/non-tightenable bolts worked loose over a decade or so!) I just replaced my Porcher this afternoon with a perfectly good looking and well functioning standard toilet that uses standard parts at a reasonable price. The Porcher I dumped unceremoniously into the garbage bin. Literally!

The Jasmine is the same model as the S300. I don't know the reason for the different names. That's probably a good price. When I bought mine nearly 3 years ago, I was told ther was fixing to be a price increase. cindaloutx, check out these videos at Toto.com. Maybe it will answer your questions. Does the retractable wand ever need cleaning? Yes, occassionally and is easily done with a soft cloth. Trying not to reveal TMI (too much information) but I just suffered thru bad stomach virus this weekend. My Washlet made made all the difference in the world :) springvillegardens, here is a photo of where I have my remote installed. No reach for it. With my back issues, I don't know what I'd do without my Washlet, not to mention how much cleaner and fresher it makes you feel. You have a choice of two rear washes, one a forceful steam and the other not as forceful and covers more area. Both are adjustable as is the water temp and seat temp. One front wash. Adjustable as well. Dryer has three temps. Also a deoderizer that automatically goes off 1 minutes after you get up. Or you can turn it on as needed. There is a power saver option. I have mine set for the features to be "on" from 9am to 12 midnight. I would hate to have to choose which bathroom feature is my favorite, the Washlet or airtub. I have one in my new ensuite. Installed and been in use since Feb of this year. Only 1 minor clog since then but I can't really blame the toilet for that... I too looked at the toto aquia 3 (dual flush, comfort height) but the price was insane here in Canada ($600 or so). this Kohler which is 1/4" short of being classified as comfort height/ADA was $320 or so. I got the slow close seat (Kohler), not the non-slow close that is recommended for this model. Installation wasn't that bad. It was my first toilet install so I have nothing to compare it to. I'll be installing a Toto Aquia II in a couple months in the main bath which I expect to be a bit easier. The only "difficult" part about the Persuade install is that I had to cut the baseboard where the toilet was going because it goes right up to the wall. Overall I'm quite pleased with it. Every time I push the "large" button I worry that it won't be able to handle the task at hand but it always pulls through. The worrying came from everyone saying "Toto is the best, got to get Toto..." Turns out there is more than 1 company that can make a respectable toilet. I can see plumbers being pissed about the install, but if you're doing it yourself (or if your neighbour is) then it's no big deal. It's easy to clean too with the skirted design and the sort of dam thing between the tank and bowl. Anyways,yes, good toilet.

@ykagan, I think the biggest thing for us is the spray patterns and water velocity. For my wife, the female spray patterns she prefers the BB1000. For me, I use the "enema" spray function a lot. Pressure is excellent, but however it all works it results in an easy bowel movement. Warm water, we both like, but she does like it more. Heated seat, my wife loves, me, I'm indifferent. Air dryer, I never use, she does occasionally. We first bought the BB1000. Installed it in the master bath. Then bought the Toto C300. Moved the BB to the kid's bath and installed the C300 in the master. We both soon realized we both preferred the BB1000 over the Toto c300. So I swapped them out. It wasn't a "new" versus "old", or a "what you're used to" thing. It was performance related.

For the higher-end home we're building, we nixed the idea based on looks/re-sale. The add-on seats do work well, but they look like some sort of hospital/home care appliance.

We've heard great things about Toto. My daughter bought the one piece Nexus with the new S7 washlet.. She hasn't installed it yet though.

We have seen this model on a couple of showroom floors. You can at least sit on them to try the height and seat comfort.

We paid more for the Toto model with the separate remote and tankless water heater so that the remote could be wall-mounted and the seat would look more or less like a typical toilet seat. I didn't love the look of the ones with tank heaters because they have to be bulkier to accommodate the tank. I wouldn't worry about it from a resale perspective, though--if you're in an area where it doesn't increase value because people aren't familiar with bidets, just replace it with a standard seat when you're ready to sell and take the bidet with you. (They have become very common in homes at higher price points in our area, though--some have them on every toilet--so I imagine it varies based on where you live.)
