American Standard's Porcher toilet and bidets

Does anybody have anything positive or negative to say about American Standard brand's Porcher series of toilets and bidets?

The toilet in question (Lutezia) has the following information:

10" x 8" water surface

12" Rough-In with an exposed nominal 2" trapway

Elongated siphon action jetted bowl

(A subquestion is how different can toilets really be? Sorry for being so ignorant!) I hope the Bathrooms Forum can get me up to speed as fast as the Kitchen's Forum!

I have not seen a lot of feedback about Porcher toilets on this forum in my many years as contributor. Try the Terrylove plumbing forum for reviews about the Porcher toilet. You may also be interested in the threads about the washlet instead of a bidet. Many on this forum use the Toto toilets (including myself). Kohler and American standard also have a strong following for their newer toilets too. The Totos tend to have 3" trapways which really improve their performance when clogging may be involved. I have two Toto Carlyles and in over six years of ownership, I nor my guests have clogged the toilet. The newer Kohler and American standards also have a 3" trapway if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion about Terry Love's forum. Not much there on this specific toilet except for people asking the same question as I am! But otherwise a useful place to know about.

Looks like you have to have your pants and undies completely off for a free standing bidet and that seems like a lot of extra trouble. Looks like the amt of water that sprays from geyser would take a washcloth or handtowel for drying. The Washlet has two rear washes with multiple speeds and one front with the same multiple speeds. All can oscillate and or pulse. Water temp varys from cold tap to about 102 or more (maybe). Has an air deoderizer and dryer. Let's not forget about the heated seat :) I don't know, maybe there is something more desireable about the stand alone bidet but I haven't figured it out :) And if I ever move (doubtful) the original seat is going on the Toto and my Washlet is coming with me! :) Monica

Unable to address your specific brand, butI have been looking at crappers recently. They have finally rated the bugger's suction from 0-10. I am amazed at some of the more expensive I have seen at H.D. have had ratings of '5' ...and ones $100. less a rating of '10'?! I have been looking because we have one of the first when the switch to smaller tanks was made and it sometimes needs about 4 flushes to .. you get the idea. JimCanci/Maryland

It's always fun finding aftermarket kits when you try to fit a chevy engine into a Jaguar. I was lucky ones in the early 80's when I installed Chevy big block engine into a Jaguar and I believe the conversion kit was only available and would work only on cars no later than 95 or 96-year Jaguar. :-) That being said I doubt anyone makes it Universal bidet mounting kits for a seat to fit any toilet... If that's the route you want to take, go on Alibaba website and find a bidet seat there for a few hundred dollars Something Like This. and contact the manufacturer and see which model toilet that will fit. Just make sure you not gonna get electrocuted or something will melt on your behind because who knows what they add to their plastic composites :-) As you know cheap always ends up being expensive. American standard has Aquawash seats do a good job. The advantage to a seat over a whole toilet with a built-in washlet device like the Toto, is that when it goes bad, and it will long before the toilet itself, you need only replace the seat, not the entire toilet. Do you have a place to plug it in?

I would suggest that you read a report done in California on toilet 'Maximum Performance Testing' since it can give you a specific way to better understand which toilets would be good. The California Urban Water Conservation Council did a detailed report that measures how many grams of waste each toilet can handle in one flush without clogging. Check it out!
Also, we had a Porcher Calla toilet that was fantastic and a Kohler Memoirs 2-piece that was horrible. After reading the report, I can see why. Hope this helps!

I would like to thank you for the info, or link to the info, also. We recently bought the Porcher, "Claremont Estate" model, and I was also looking for some ratings.

NEVER TOUCH A PORCHER TOILET!

Seriously, they look nice, but no nicer than plenty of other toilets. And they work fine, just like plenty of others. But, the outrageous price aside, parts cannot be bougth retail (not even at dealers/distributors), so add seven days and $15 for shipping - and it requires PROPRIETARY PARTS!

That's right. No walking into Home Depot and buying a flapper or a seat. That will be $90 for their equivalent of a flapper and $125 upwards for a seat, plus shipping.

And then the seat cannot be fit under some normal circumstances (non-replaceable/non-tightenable bolts worked loose over a decade or so!)

I just replaced my Porcher this afternoon with a perfectly good looking and well functioning standard toilet that uses standard parts at a reasonable price.

The Porcher I dumped unceremoniously into the garbage bin.

Literally!
