I second cp artist’s suggestion. i would also add that I share a similar aversion to plastic in our supply lines and fixtures but then learned that our city water comes to our main line via plastic.

You pay for what you get, so don't be shopping for low dollar. On top quality products, typically the non-metallic parts in contact with the water will be rubber O-rings, nylon, or ceramic discs at the seals, faucets or swivel connections. Those can't be avoided.

I like Kohler products. Cast brass faucets. I would go to their web site, find what I want, then shop the Kohler P/N on the web. I have found build.com to have good pricing and excellent delivery. And, you may find the faucet you want at the box stores. If it's the same P/N, it's the same.

The water in your home has come into contact with a lot of "plastic" already - from the water source, to the pipes in the ground, to the shut-off valves, to the water softener/filter/etc. And I have plastic in quotes because there are many different types of materials that are commonly called plastic, from CPVC, nylon, polypropylene, PEX, silicone rubber, etc. that are really very different materials. Virtually every faucet contains some of these - and thank goodness they do.

Even a moderately priced faucet --from Big Box or a local plumbing supply, it doesn't matter -- is going to provide you with many, many years of service. You are far more likely to sell the house / remodel the room than you are likely to see the end of the service life of a new faucet.

Above a certain price point, it's almost entirely about style. In fact, you may get better life out of a mid-level faucet than a very expensive one. There are posts here about expensive faucets that have finishes that look bad in a short period of time. Mainstream faucets have undergone a lot of durability testing in design, and out in the field, that boutique faucets can't possibly match.

Ditto what CP said about Ferguson's, if you have one near you. They own build.com so you can search there for faucets that are solid brass. Kohler, Rohl, and Brizo are some options. Brizo is a lower price point than many other solid brass options, and I chose a Brizo because the rep I'm working with at Ferguson's has one and loves it. (I don't think she was just trying to sell me on it, because I was looking at other, more expensive alternatives too.) I also liked that the spray function on the Brizo stays on without holding it, unlike the Rohl faucets I looked at. I guess I'm pretty confident in Brizo because I ended up ordering 5 (kitchen, 2 bar sinks, and 2 bathrooms) but they aren't installed yet so I can't speak to experience in use. My last house had Kohler in the kitchen, mudroom, and 5 bathrooms and those were great and probably still going strong after many years.

ETA - Kohler from a place like Fergusons, not big box. I believe they make a lower end version for big box and those may not be solid brass.

Chicagoans - If it's the same Kohler P/N, it's the same faucet.

All faucets in this house are Kohler. The only one that's been updated when new sink installed that I know of is the kitchen - and its an updated Kohler too. (the home has had three owners since 1955). I did have bathroom faucets in our former house that I liked a lot from Chicago Faucet. Liked both their function and style for that room. (a less usual color that I can't find now, must be discontinued. I remember it as being 'midnight pearl' or close to that). Quality was great.

You can also do Delta but again check at Fergusons first for the sku.

I prefer to support local independent plumbing/hardware stores, if possible. Many will match prices if you ask.

I defy anyone anywhere to substantiate the claim that the same faucet purchased from a local vendor is any different that one purchased from a big box store. You are asking us to believe that name brands manufacture lesser quality products to be sold less expensively at the box stores. There has never been a single shred of evidence anywhere to substantiate this myth.

Big box stores get their cheap prices through leverage, not by using cheaper components. When you buy several hundred boxcars of faucets from Delta every year, Delta is going to give you the lowest price on them and you can pass that savings on to your customers.

What Joseph said^^. A couple of years ago, I retired a 20 something years old Delta faucet that I had purchased new from Home Depot. Retired because it didn't fit the new sink which required a single hole faucet mount. Not one repair in all those years. The new faucet, also from a big box store, is a $159 Moen Adler pull down. I tried to remain loyal to Delta but, IMO, Moen currently has a design edge over Delta. Delta seems to have committed their better looking faucet designs to their more $$ Brizo line.

I have cabinets over the sink so I needed a modestly sized faucet. The Adler fit the bill perfectly. And was stupid simple to install!

Well I guess I'll take back what I said or implied about big box stores. But I'll stick to what I said about looking for solid brass. (I had a shower valve / head from Grohe or Hans Grohe with a piece that failed behind the wall. Big mess.)

One thing I prefer about a place like Fergusons or a Kohler showroom is that in some cases, you can test the faucet hooked up to water. I've never seen that at a big box store. I highly dislike having to hold the sprayer down to keep it on, and being able to test with a water source lets me try that out.

Hi, What ever you buy, save the parts list. Maybe put it in a plastic bag and tape it to the cabinet under the sink. If you ever need it, you will be glad you did.
