Actually, that's not unfinished--it's natural, from what you're describing, but sounds like it does have a finish. I don't know if a wax would work, either. Guess you could give the dark Old English a try, if you aren't worried about what happens to the piece, but that mainly works best on scratches, where it can penestrate the wood itself, don't know how much color change you'd get with a finished piece. But you can buy finish (varnish or shellac--I forget which--it's been years since I've used it) that has stain added to it. That would probably be the quickest, easiest way to go, IF it will work on the finish already on your piece. I'd start with a very small sample can of product and try it on an unobtrusive part of the piece to see how it will work, if it's compatible with the finish already on the piece, and if you like the color (they can look very different at home, than in the store, depending upon what you put them on).

Geez they don't make this easy. Now I need help on how to straighten the deck boards when I'm trying to screw them down. It's just me, so I need a plan that will work for someone working alone. Also, I had the wood delivered a good 2 months ago. Some of it has been sitting in a shady area and is still wet. The rest has been up on the deck, so I could move around up there and is noticeable more dry and warped. I know to put the wetter boards as tight as I can, but what about the stuff that has a head start?

I just painted my bedroom Van Deusen Blue and it is gorgeous. (Had a horrid experience with SW and as soon as I went back to Ben, all was well. You have the BEST paint.) I'm a better-than-average painter but no matter what I do - taping, straight-edge guide, slow freestyle - I cannot get a clean line. It's bad enough that I am considering painting the rest of my house white just to avoid the mess. Any tips? And any suggestions for a warm white just in case? Thanks!!!

My husband and I are currently building our home and I'm reconsidering our exterior colors. Right now we have very cool options picked out but I feel like I don't love it anymore. I've been looking up new colors online today and I found that I'm enjoying the look of a white exterior. My questions are, what are the pros and cons I should be aware of? Also what color stone or brick would you use for an all white exterior? Any advice is appreciated! Go through Pinterest, collect 20-25 white houses that appeal to you, then go through and analyze what they have in common. Are you attracted to white houses with green roofs? Or white houses with porches? Does a particular color front door keep popping up? Do the houses you choose have a shingle accent in the gable? What about shutters? Pros and cons? Not particularly. It's a style choice, not a functional option. Trendy? How about "classic" Gotta agree. I'm from a rural area, and 100% of the old-old farmhouses are white ... or, I should say, they were all white when I was growing up. Those that've been remodeled are often yellow or grey now. I grew up in a white farmhouse. I can't comment on my current neighborhood 'cause we're 100% brick.
