Has anyone used "Neolith" for countertops (or been tempted to)?
Comments (176)Hi Everyone - we just had our Neolith Calcacutta counters in silk finish installed in our kitchen. I DO NOT recommend going with this product unless you are okay with a number of downsides. We utilized a certified Neolith fabricator who has lot of experience in working with this material. We did the mitered edges so that they were not white as well. Not only was this by far the most expensive product, but it was disappointing as well. You can see the white edges where it was mitered and there are defects from the moment of installation from which I was told are "normal" and acceptable. My seams (only two, that is nice) are VERY obvious and not what I would have expected. The material itself marks up when ANYTHING touches it basically. Put a cookie sheet on it and you have horrible black / gray marks everywhere that do not come out. I have been told you have to be willing to scrub it for that to happen and they recommended using acetone to get them out. Um....so now i am left with counters that cost me over $13k that I am not happy with from how they look (they look great from afar) and that mark up when anything touches it and I have to use a special something to try and get them out and that is not easy. If I could do it again, I would go with quartz or quartzite. These are not worth the pain and suffering along with the high cost and disappointing outcome. I went to some friend's house over the weekend where they had their new quartz counters installed, by the same fabricators we used and they look far superior to ours and they do not have the same issues. I read the reviews on here and chose it anyway and am devastated I did. I wish I had taken these reviews to heart and not listened to the fabricator's comments that these were one off experiences....See MoreHelp! Quartzite counter has changed colors
Comments (189)Red Butterfly; I am going to replace my counters. Replacement was supposed to have happened in Sept. It did not, and fabricator did not call or contact me. He just did not show up. I made several attempts to follow up, but he did not respond until much later and after an email that indicated that his actions (or inaction) indicated the replacement promise, was just empty words/a lie. He then called. I am now scheduled for replacement between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We shall see. My fabricator does not seem sincere in his promise to replace the counters. I do not have high hopes for him to replace the counters....See MoreSpectrum Quartz counter tops
Comments (147)Sorry, we haven't decided on a new countertop & backsplash. I very much think that Impeccable, or very similar Silestone Ehtereal Glow, would go great in our kitchen with the light wood grain cabinets. Burt my wife then disagreed since she wants all grey or silver veining as opposed to the grey and beige veins. So, we haven't done anything yet....See Moreanyone replace new home counters BECAUSE they are marble/quartz
Comments (46)It really depends on the price of the house and its location. In many expensive neighborhoods, people will replace a 2 year old kitchen just because it's "not their taste". If a more modestly priced or even low-priced area, I think countertops would be an issues only if they were some strong color (bright yellow or orange Formica or some such). People have pretty strong opinions about countertops these days. Higher end kitchens are expected to have either quartz or marble; spec housing expects granite. Me? I don't care for either! I LOVE my Glacier White Corian countertops and have done so now for 33 years! Blondaninomina, I cannot imagine what on earth you are talking about saying they are not "functional"! They are very easy to clean, practically indestructible (no hot pans, though), and wear like iron. Mine look like they did when they were first installed. But I am aware that people today think of Corian as "low-end" countertops in the US; in Europe and the UK, they are considered very high end. I remodeled my kitchen for myself; if the new owners don't like it, they are welcome to replace it....See MoreJscoast2coast
