This is not exactly what you are asking about, but I had a 48" all gas Viking range in my last house with Ceasarstone countertops. We had no problems and cooked a lot. This time around I'm getting a 48" Capital (prescision) but haven't decided on the counters yet.

Silestone offers integral sinks.

Thanks for the info; at our local Home Depot they didn't mention integral Silestone sinks. I'll check it out.

I have a Corian on the counters flanking my Capital Precision range, no problems. I wouldn't do a white corian sink though, if that's your plan. Red foods stain them terribly (ketchup, marinara, wine) and they require constant bleaching or scrubbing with Comet to look nice. I did undermount stainless this time around.

Therefore, I would talk to your Corian rep about this, not the appliance rep

Our corian counter cracked from the heat of a cook top...I'm talking a cheap and low powered cook top. After it was about a year old, one day while we were cooking for a group it literally cracked like a cheap wind shield. We were given the fine print in the warranty...it can crack from heat exposure.

This was a cheap cooktop. I'd never use the crap again. Next to our lacanche we have stainless (with an integrated sink) and we LOVE LOVE LOVE that countertop. Cost was comparible to a solid surface, and it out performs any counter we've ever owned.

Melted? That really surprises me unless the high-powered range in question was a restaurant grade (Garland or Vulcan type) not insulated for residential use. I use my gas range daily with no damage whatsoever to the surrounding Corian.

I would not use Corian near a stove/range top

Preventing Heat Damage:

CORIAN� withstands heat better than ordinary surface materials. However, hot pans, as well as some heat-generating appliances, like frying pans, woks, toaster ovens, curling irons or crockpots, can damage the surface.

To prevent heat damage, always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect your CORIAN�.

Do not use large pots that extend off the stove or cooktop onto your CORIAN� surface and cook for several hours. They generate several hundred degrees of temperature that can crack the CORIAN�.

Preventing Other Damage:

In most cases, CORIAN� can be repaired if accidentally damaged. However, be sure to follow the guidelies here to prevent any permanent damage to CORIAN�.

Our Corian cracked from the heat on both sides of my gas range. We routinely boil large pots of liquid on the outside burners and they are close though not touching the Corian. I would not use Corian.
