Could someone help me identify dining chairs? Pics
Comments (15)Well....this has turned into a discussion of pain ted vs not painted furniture.....when the forum is about antiques. To me things that were not originally made to be painted and get painted looks like "early marriage" decorating on a shoe string and if it looks beat up...paint it! And this assumption affirmed by all who says a Duncan Phyfe looks "Fresh and young" painted.... It would be criminal to paint those chairs...And I really think a painted Duncan Phyfe style looks very "improvised" painted....like look....I couldn't afford new....so I painted this! A real wood finish, with a coat of good paste wax....or if you must refinish it a coat of oil based poly is pretty resistant to wet glasses and milk spills....See MoreHelp Identifying Dining Room Chairs

Comments (0)Just stripped the upholstery off my inherited 100 year old dining chairs and found springs under the horsehair. The spring has a coil in the middle of two flat two metal bands that are nailed to the chair. The coil is on it's side - not standing up. Some of the bands have broken although the springs are in amazingly good condition. Can anyone tell me what this type of spring is called and whether it is possible to find new ones? Thanks!...See MoreHelp identify age of dining room table
Comments (20)In fairness to Keeping Room, OP merely stated that to his knowledge, the table had been bought prior to 1969. There were plenty of mass produced wood furniture produced prior to 1969. Even brown wood furniture manufactured earlier than that, is not particularly valuable unless there is something unique in the design. Craigslist is filled with listings for furniture with no takers Even if the table was manufactured in 1900, it would have little value because brown furniture of that style is not currently desirable and the market is flooded with it of all vintage. I had some very elaborate Victorian China cabinets with bowed glass which I know dated from the late 19th century and I could hardly give them away last year. If I had any room or way of using, I would have kept, but I found thema hime with my neighbor’s brother It’s a functional table and if OP needs it and likes it, there is the value but realistically not much dollar market of one tries to sell it....See Morelinda campbell
