Asymmetric walls in dining
Hi y’all! I have a dining room that is open to the kitchen and 18 feet along the long wall (the one 5 boxes across), and about 13 feet on the shorter wall. We are just finishing up this wall treatment.
I’m worried about balancing both sides, and also about what to do with the leftover space to the left of the buffet in on the 18 foot wall.
My initial thoughts too to try to balance both sides were a buffet and art above it on the long wall and just art on the short wall? That leaves a lot of room on the long wall to maybe put a China cabinet as well? Or is that weird to have two pieces of furniture on the same wall like that? I have to work hard not to be matchy matchy so my knee-jerk would be to get a coordinating China cabinet and buffet like below but maybe that’s too much? I also know I don’t have to fill up every wall with furniture but feel tempted to put a China cabinet there. Thank you for any time and consideration

12 months agoI will mention that I previously asked for help on here for balance in this dining room to build a bar on one side but I ended doing that just outside the dining on the adjacent living wall. But it will be in view of furniture I put around the corner from this angle so wanted to mention it

Comments (7)Install TV on the stair wall. Many pros put all the TV gear in a closet under the stairs and out of sight. Arrange a seating area in that 12 x 14 area. A sofa and 2 chairs would work well. In the area by the sliders and kitchen peninsula, flank the window with a pair of chairs, perhaps with footstools) and a lamp for a reading area. Once you in stall curtains, a lot of the large wall between the windows will be covered by drapes. Comments (8)Maybe paint the fireplace surround and mantle so it stands out from the door? it looks like the wall wraps around instead of ending, if it ends I like the 1st inspiration picture from Irene. Comments (7)This is how the previous owners had the room configured, but we’ve tried every arrangement with the bed. It won’t fit on the wall where the bed used to be, as their bed was a queen and ours is a king. We are stuck in this spot. The curtain idea is interesting! 12 months agoYes we decided against doing anything to windows wall and so very happy to hear you agree bc Im very over messing with that trim! I have wondered about adequate space for a buffet but measured a long time ago and thought it was fine but should measure it again. It would be useful but i do prob have enough storage in kitchen and bar so I was mostly thinking of one just to finish the space
