Hmm, we've gotten the postcard or flyer in years past, but I don't recall seeing one or hearing of this in 2023. I think from what I remember it was the same day all over the place.

Now I'm curious. I do think it's a great undertaiking.

Near Los Angeles, we received a paper bag to use with mail delivery yesterday.

Some communities, like my own, seem to do it very quietly any more. Not a single notice on tv that I've seen. There used to be more importance placed on it. My mothers little larger town, same state, always provided a bag - right up until she moved into senior living and they may still be doing it. We haven't been given a bag to fill in several years.

Quick dash to the store which was wildly crowded right before mothers day. And of course ran into people we knew and DH needed to visit. I'd put on a clean shirt, still had my yard work pants on.

I bought boxed scalloped potato dinners, boxed Kraft mac and cheese, few Dinty Moore 38 oz beef stews canned, put in a few cans Costco tuna. I don't think we've done a food bank donation since Christmas so we were due.

I'm not happy with the inflated grocery prices but we're not going without anything - meaning I really should help where I can.

I usually buy a couple of cases of one thing or another at Costco and it completely slipped my mind the last time we shopped there.

If I'd wanted flowers I'd have been in good shape at Safeway. One entire end of the store was stuffed with cut, loose, arranged flowers and plants for Mothers Day.

Zero notice here. No card, no bag. If they are doing it, its a secret.

No flyer or notice this year. But I can donate just as easily directly to the food bank or at several drop off points. Our postal workers are overwhelmed. They don't need this added to their burden.

^^^ wildchild, it does seem like a clunky laborious endeavor. Probably someone years back thought it would be a noce PR thing for the USPS to do.

I may opt for the direct cash or grocery donation, Our postwoman has one of those Jeep like boxy mail trucks. What a hassel for them.

Signs all over here in Chicago suburbs. Post office trucks all have sported banners for weeks. Plastic bags were delivered to everyones mailboxes recently. A few years ago there was a heavy rainstorm the day of food drive and most of the food was not usable.

The Northern Illinois Food Pantry strongly recommends money donations rather than food purchased at retail prices as they can leverage more food for the same price.
