What do you do with framed art that you don't like?
Comments (32)We have a painting that hung in the family farmhouse for years that is really ugly to me. The frame is bad, the picture itself is not in good shape and so many times I have wanted to chuck it out the door. But it was given to my DH by his Uncle who never married and divided the household goods among the nephews and nieces. The artist name is Ernst. There is actually a well known painter by this name but we don't know if its the same one or not. Just recently learned of him. Anyway, the painting is large and sits behind the bookcases in my DHs office. Even if its by the well known Ernst, I don't like the painting and would never hang it. Its a landscape....See Morecan you post a pic of art that you have on your wall?
Comments (22)I like your choices too..the woman is my favorite and I like the abstract too. Here is a wall of art I have in my kitchen. I've collected it over the years...lots of years...and it was all from flea markets, yearly antique shows out in a field or from ebay. One of my favorites came from a garage sale and cost a whopping $1.00. It's very eclectic but it's totally me. My kitchen walls are apple green..but every time I take a photo the camera picks the color up as a sick acid green. It's really not so excuse how it looks in the photo. And the lighting isn't great but you get the idea. Anyway, a lot of people think I'm quirky...and I don't care...so go for it if you like it. Comments (45)Ida Claire: No. There are some things that are right and some that are wrong, and that's what dilemmas are really about. Those are real dilemmas that need real help and expertise. And that's a real service that forums like this provide. But there is a line. And I think HGTV has made people paranoic about every little decorating decision. When there is no right or wrong--Remember the post asking whether the person should cut the labels off of their towels?--there is no real need to ask the question. When the issue is temporary (decorating a mantel, a wreath on a door) or of little monetary concern (pillows on a bed), etc., adults should be able to make their own decision without involving strangers (of varying abilities and tastes). There is no consequence for making either choice, since it's in the privacy of your own home. Just do it and move on. And if there is a consequence--if your friends will judge you one way or the other--then you need new friends, not design advice....See MoreCollecting art that you love vs buying art to decorate your house?
Comments (10)I love, love, love art. I do somewhat intentionally match it to my room, usually with a common color. That does not mean the dominant colors are all the same, maybe just splashes. I know this is not a popular practice in these forums. I also match the theme of art because I am drawn to people. 99% of my art is of faces. Because I am drawn to particular colors, most of my art and my decor also reflects that. My home contains art that I love but it must also fit the criteria of being able to decorate my space in terms of size, color, and theme, all while speaking to my soul. Even though I coordinate my art, my house is the exact opposite of Home Goods. Truth be told, I do have a handful of items from them ;-). You can still have interesting and unique spaces that are not all matchy matchy while still coordinating art....See Morepricklypearcactus
